I think this is a great addition to Tirana's centre. Its called Skanderbeg Square after all. He was Albania's national hero so its a great big part of our history. I love this place.
Those who step on to Albanian soils cannot avoid Skanderbeg. The man was and still remains one of the most influential people in Albanian history and that is why a massive and impressive sculpture has been placed in his honour right in the heart of Tirana, Albanian capital. It truly stands in the core of the city and almost everything worth seeing is located well within the shadows of this statue and the square it stands in.
This is hearth and center of Tirane. Means a lot for Albanians. There was a nice decoration in front for holidays in December so we used it as a spot for couple of memorial pictures of our trip in Albania
Literally, it's in the center of Tirana which is a hub for many of the bus lines in the city and I pass by it almost daily for one reason or another. It's cool but if you know about who this guy is and what he means to the Albanian people and their history, it's pretty cool. If you are up to it, you can climb on the monument itself and grab a cool photo for your Albanian friends at home, I think they will appreciate it.
So it's more like Skanderbeg Oval instead of a Square. It's still an impressive public area in central Tirana. I enjoyed the view best from atop the nearby Clock Tower.
Skaderbeg is just one of my favorite statues ever. You can feel the strength of the history and the man. If it were to come alive while I stood watching I wouldn't be surprised. I see it every day as I walk out and I will never tire of it.
So this statue is also in the main square. you can learn about more about Skanderbeg and his significance for albanians. there is not too much things actually to see in tirana but skanderbeg will expand your culture and history knowledge. enjoy...
It is nice to pass by, but not much to see here, just a statue in the middle of a square, not much else going on around it
Skanderbeg's Statue takes pride of place in the very centre of Tirana. He's regarded as Albania's national hero and lived in the early 1400's when he defended the country against Ottoman attack. This statue show him atop his horse wearing his trademark helmet with a goat's head on top. Traffic around the statue is chaotic but its worth crossing the street to get a photo, with the Albanian flag and Mosque in the background.
A hero to Albanians. It's in an easy location too find. A nice stroll pass with some photos is easily done! Just needs a path in front of it so don't stand on the grass.
