I didnt have time to take the guided tour, but found this worthwhile of visiting regardless. Walking around you get a sense of peace and viewing all of the memorials was fascinating.
This was a good tour around a pretty cemetery. The highlight was going into the Crypt of O'connel. There's a lot of talk about famous Irish people, so if you do not follow Irish history you may get a little lost - personally I would have preferred to hear more about the ordinary people. It's worth spending 20 minutes or so in the basement museum (small but very well done) and you MUST make sure you leave time to enjoy one of the cakes in the cafe!I made an effort to get here (140 bus) due to the other reviews, and whilst I did enjoy I would recommond you go only if you have more than a weekend in Dublin, or it's not your first visit.
Having lived in Dublin my whole life and having been brought up in a very proud, patriotic family I cannot believe I had never visited Glasnevin Cemetry! Absolutely incredible tour given by Niall who was so informative and truly a great story teller. Glasnevin just had a really special, historical feel to it and Ireland's true heros are all buried there. I left feeling a greater sense of who I was as an Irish person and I felt greatly inspired having heard how all those amazing people lived their lives. Our tour was last Saturday and I am still thinking about it. A huge gur raibh míle to Niall for taking us on a tour we will never forget. I am feeling very proud to be Irish! If you are visiting Dublin you have to come here - it will really show you what Ireland is all about.
街口远远看到紫色小花环绕的小屋,带着休闲与温馨的感觉,让路过的人纷纷止步,留下瞬间美好的回忆。与格拉斯的香水对比,它淡雅的开放在心底。
An interesting, educational and thought-provoking visit to Glasnevin Cemetery today. We were able to look round the museum and avail of the walking tour, which lasted the best part of two hours. Food in the café was good, and very reasonably priced, too.I'm so pleased that it's run by a charitable trust. Of course there are still commercial considerations but the trust strikes the right balance between promoting it as an educational facility and tourist attraction, whilst at the same time maintaining the proper respect and dignity for those who are - and will be - buried there.
Please visit the museum and the guided tour!..One of the best you can have in a place like that!!!Special great respect to Michael's resting place..........
I love being a tourist in my own city - particularly when you encounter a gem like Glasnevin Cemetery Museum. The guide assigned to our group was very knowledgeable and told lots of little anecdotes about the people buried in Glasnevin - from regular people to those who were deeply involved in the course of Irish history. It was utterly engrossing. I particularly enjoyed visiting Daniel O'Connell's tomb and looking up the centre of the tower above. I will certainly revisit when the stairs are rebuilt in the near future. Do bear in mind that the graveyard is a cold place so wrap up - we warmed ourselves up with a cup of tea in the cafe after our tour. I would highly recommend a visit no matter who you are or what your knowledge of Irish history is - there is something for everyone on the tour.
We took the audio tour & found the information to be extremely interesting. The staff in the reception/shop area were helpful and gave us a map to help with our tour. We were able to find everything but the map isn't quite as helpful & accurate as it could be in finding certain graves. The museum after was good and a welcome break from the cold after our tour of the cemetery! Wrap up warm if the sun isn't shining! Would recommend as a different way of learning about Dublin & Eire's history
