Beautiful grounds. Great glasshouses, cafe and shop. Very helpful staff. What is there to dislike? Maybe small car park, but there's on-street parking.
I'm lucky enough to live close to the Botanic Gardens so spent a lot of my childhood wandering around the gardens on various school trips (a 5 minute walk away) and with my parents. If you visit Ireland and love nature you have to come and see this place, you could walk for hours and never see the same part twice, there's a number of greenhouses to wander through on your way around as well as a beautiful rose garden (which is always a highlight) and a river with plenty of wildlife (ducks and squirrels everywhere you look). On a sunny day there is nothing nicer than a stroll around the gardens, bring a picnic and sit down in the grass to pass some time. One thing; the last time I was there the restaurant/cafe was extremely expensive. A couple of nice pubs and small cafes within a 5 minute walk away so plenty of choice if you want to get something to eat at a reasonable price. It's quite easy to get to, an 83 bus will leave you right outside while a 4 will leave you about 5 minutes away on the main road.
You have to visit this place if you are in Dublin. There's a cemetery beside the Botanic Gardens so you can see a little bit further of the Irish culture. The gardens are absolutely stunning!
excellent tour, so much to see, pick you day so that you get good weather, the victorian greenhouse is really interesting, it is also so close to the city
Having grown up in Dublin I've been coming here for years and years. Its not very big but considering how close it is to the city centre its wonderful and its free. A very beautiful space to just clear the head and connect with nature.I'm a fan of nature and love having a wander, looking at the different plants and flowers, walking through the rose garden or around by the little river. The coffeehouse can be noisey with children and I have to say it is a great day out for the kids. But if you're looking for quiet adult time maybe give the coffeeshop a miss...the pub next door do a nice lunch. There are not great parking facilities but the bus stops right outside it. I have been known to spend all there here and when I'm studying its a great place to catch up on interrupted reading.
The Gardens are beautiful and well worth a visit. A vsit to the restaurant is a perfect way to end your visit, the food is fresh and the portions are good, always very busy but worth the wait
Visited in February and there was not a great deal in bloom. The gardens are stunning though and come spring this will be an awesome place to visit.
Walking around the botanic garden is a regular free treat for me. You have to go each season to really appreciate it, as you see the trees and flowers at all their difference stages. The greenhouses are magnificent structures and pleasant to walk around. You can now enter the old cemetery from the gardens and can easily visit both in one go. Nearby on the Rise in Glasnevin is a cafe/restaurant called Anderson's where you can have some cheese, charcuterie and a glass of wine to follow.
