I was lucky enough to join a prebooked tour with Newton George. Those 4 hours were the highlight of my Oceania Cruses off ship experiences. I am an amateur bird watcher who was awed at Newton's spotting ability. His excitement at seeing his favorites was intoxicating. The 5 of us could not have been more pleased with our stimulating tour.
This was my very first trip into a rain forest and it was amazing!!!! We were able to bird watch and the pace was however we wanted it to be. We came upon a troop of leaf cutter ants, have seen them on nature shows but to see it up close and in motion was one of the highlights for me. Our guide LeRoy was a gem, with his knowledge of the wildlife and the flora just made the experience all that much better. These gems of the earth should be a high priority for all counties to save and protect for all generations.
A visit to here will convince you that have done tropical jungle and that it's worth saving. It is a good investment to take a guide. we ventured in once on our own and enjoyed the experience but we learnt so much more and saw so much more with a guide. We finished up at his place sitting on his verandah, drinking beer and watching the parrots coming in to roost. I have been in lots of jungle forest parks and this is among the best. Long may it continue to be protected.
Wonderful experience of walking, climbing and looking at so much beauty in Tobago's lovely rainforest with Harris McDonald - who was so knowledgeable - thank you!
Maybe this is dependent on your guide but ours was brilliant. A six foot eight Rastafarian, called Edwin, who looked real scary but turned out to be a smashing guy who when he found out my wife was having trouble with the rough ground treated her like his own grandmother. He really knew his subject and taught us a lot. Do not bother with the rubber boots offered for hire as they are wetter and more slippery inside than the forest floor itself.
Fantastic experience through the rainforest. Lots to see and hear. Darlington was fantastic, very knowledgeable. A wonderful morning experience.
A highlite of our trip was a ride through the Tobago Forest Reserve. We hired a guide and a vehicle as the reserve itself is very large and you really need someone to show you around. The tree in the picture is the oldest one on the I sland and is growing so fast that it is trearing up the road. Clean fresh water flows from the numerous streams We filled a few bottles to take back to the hotel and enjoyed them every day of our trip. The animals are unusual as they have grown up in a protected enviornment and have very few preditors. Well worth the trip.
Take the longer hike option and rent the willies and a guide. you get so much more from the tour with a guide and they can tailor it to want you want. I have been there bird watching, romantic night time walk to a waterfall and to see fireflies hike with the kids. Not to many places on the planet you can see virgin rainforest by taking a short stroll. Buttress trees , leaf cutter ants, endemic birds brilliant
i loved this place got to swim and have a nice part of the day. there is a place to change and get a few things from to eat or drink. there is a small walk to get to the falls but not far and elderly people can get there also as i seen few do so. went with a guide.
Great experience - specially with local guide. Must visit while in tobago and fully enjoy the nature - flora and fauna. Better to go on your own and hire guide there.
