I wanted to very much review this as my wife and I traveled all the way there from Westhampton Beach yesterday only to find that it was closed. Be cognizant of their hours which seem weird to me, not open on weekends! It looked pretty nice from the gate entrance way but other than that we can'y comment so I'll leave a 3 star giving the benefit of the doubt that has we gotten in it would have been nice, $20 to get in did seem steep but we don't know for sure since we couldn't get in.
Dear Danielle,We are sorry that you were disappointed in the recommendation you received about LongHouse Reserve. We are not a historical site, nor do we bill ourselves as such. We are an outdoor art museum with 16 acres of grounds filled with many varieties of trees, plants and flowers that intersect with numerous works of art, by artists as varied as Willem DeKooning and Eric Fischl. There are many historical museums in East Hampton and we hope that you were able to visit them during your stay. SincerelyMatko TomicicExecutive Director
Longhouse reserve is a series of beautiful gardens, made in a unique style integrating sculptures and exhibits. It looks nothing like your typical English garden. It's hard to describe, but it feels like, although the gardens are manmade, that the plants are growing freeform. It doesn't feel contrived. We drove 1h30 to get there after 3 days in Manhattan and this was definitely the highlight of our trip. The staff were delightful and actually made sure we hit some other touristic spots.
So much beauty, so much to see. I would recommend going back often as the seasons change, new gardens are added and the art exhibits are always amazing.
This is a must visit in East Hampton.Jack Lenor Larson's beautiful, pristine gardens filled with artwork and a magnificent lilly pond. It will restore your soul.
If you are at all interested in gardens or art, make this a stop. We had time constraints but were still able to cover everything in an hour, you could easily take two. Some very fascinating sculptures placed in a myriad of inventive garden settings. Check for opening days and hours as they change seasonally.
The atmosphere of these gardens, which are artistic and original, is serene and nourishing. The art exhibited on the grounds is of the caliber you would expect to find in a fine modern and contemporary art museum , not what one would usually expect of a garden. I have had the opportunity to attend several of their special events and the experiences have been fantastic. The best of The Hamptons in every way, plus you are supporting a working foundation with high standards and a great education outreach. Not to be missed under any circumstance.
Longhouse Reserve in East Hampton is a lovely oasis of nature and sculpture. Acres of gardens interspersed with beautiful sculpture.Every summer, there is a contest for the best containers. A real treat. If you are a garden lover and visiting the Hamptons, put it at the top of your list.
A must do for every visitor to East Hampton. Even in mid summer the gardens were cool and with fabulous sculptures, interesting planting schemes and avant garde outdoor furniture there was something for everyone to admire!
It was an amazing experience - the art, the lush green gardens and the love! The grounds are beautifully cultivated with artwork/sculptures throughout. The Chihuly installation is beautiful. The pools are amazing. A true oasis for art and garden lovers alike.
