We were advised to visit by our granddaughter who attends college florists course. We had lived in Enfield for 40 years but had never visited the gardens but wish we had. We were amazed at how big it was.
What a delight it was to spend a whole morning touring the grounds of Capel Manor. This is a real gem and costs very little to get in. The gardens are well signposted and there is a lot to see and do for people of all ages. The students who attend the college based there do a good job in looking after the gardens and there is also an area where Which magazine trial variorum plants. Well worth visiting, we will go back at a different season.
This summer I found what I consider a hidden gem. I love gardens...I've visited major garden shows; spending hours traipsing round trying to squeeze through the crowds...But, hooray at Capel Manor Gardens you don't have to. You can wander, at your ease around the 30+ acres - much of which dates back to the 13th Century. There are loads of small themed gardens to visit within the grounds, lovely areas for picnics - and also a pleasant cafeteria. Staff ( and students of Capel Manor College) are helpful and knowledgeable - So if you've questions about your own plants ask away. Before you leave visit the plant store - just behing the reception desk for some amazing bargains.
Capel manor is a lovely place, I visit very often, such nice surroundings.Im looking forward to Enfield s battle of the bands competition there, it should be one of the most spectacular events Enfield has rver seen, always a pleasure to visit
Lovely gardens for the flower enthusiasts and exotic plants for the keen gardener whetehr amateur or professional. Animals to visit to keep the kids happy and a very good cafe/restaurant..
We dropped in at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon, to be told that the gardens were closing at 5pm, and that we would be expected to pay full whack even to get to the shop or the restaurant. We found it very strange that a revenue source on a wet and grey afternoon would require a further fee to be spent!
If you want a gentle stroll through an interesting range of gardens, then don't miss Capelmanor! It is like walking through a village and learning about garden fashions as you go. The experimental area is fascinating.
It is such A joy to walk among the beautiful gardens and see the wonderful plants and flowers. Could easily spend a whole day there. Definitely need a map as it's easy to get lost especially in the maze. I think we are really lucky to have such a place of peace and tranquillity so near to the hustle and bustle of Enfield Town area. Great just for a walk to relax or as an educational trip for plant and garden enthusiasts.
it was alright good service food was slightly hot wouldnt mind going again only if i had to !!try for your self !!!!
Capel Manor gardens are a hidden gem in Enfield. Anyone looking for inspiration for their own garden or just wanting an escape into a green oasis for a few hours should make the trip here. The gardens are laid out over a large area so cover a multitude of styles. There are seasonal events too so it is worth checking online before planning a visit. Also worth noting that there are 2 other great venues very nearby at Forty Hall and Middleton House.
