The best of Rodin is in this little museum tucked into the Art district of Philadelphia. Overshadowed by both the PAM and Barnes, the Rodin nevertheless is even more worth a visit that these other two powerhouses. This is the best collection of the French sculptor's work in the world, including the pieces at his former residence in Paris. Don't miss it. Make a special trip. If only for the Gates of Hell.
Parking is quite challenging but the museum make up for it parking is the negative whereas the museum is a plus!!!
Probably one of the smallest museums I have been too but definitely worth the visit--nicely designed to showcase a number of Rodin's work with helpful details by each piece to aid with your understanding. The staff was friendly, offered to answer any questions but did not impose themselves on the visitors. A 'full' visit will probably take an hour or less.
It was nice seeing the statue Dobie Gillis would like to reflect upon but I'm not terribly into Rodin. I didn't see a single piece that would work in my living room. ;-) The Gates of Hell is truly worth studying but way too big for 'my' door frame.
Very pretty works of art even though most are centered on pain and suffering, tortured souls kind of stuff. The fact that you enter through the 'Gates of Hell' pretty much sums up what's inside.
A beautifully maintained small museum that contains the largest collection of Rodin works outside of France. The staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable, and the size is perfect to see everything while taking your time in a relaxed manner. Absolutely worth the walk and a great part of any visit to the city.
It's a small museum and can easily be seen in under an hour. Certainly worthwhile and the grounds are pretty too.
The second largest collection of Rodin works; second only to the Rodin Museum in Paris. Some amazing art in a really gorgeous building. Just down the Ben Franklin parkway from the Philadelphia Museum. This is a definite for art lovers. Be sure to see it.
Since I have been to many museums with Rodin's work, this museum is limited to only Rodin's works and not much else.
The collection of Rodin masterpieces and the history it represents can be taken in at this stunning gem of a Museum in Philadelphia. Add a Parisian cafe next door and it may feel like a visit to Paris, sans the flight.
