Had a chance of visiting Schattenburg castle with a few business associates. Could not see the museum since it was closed. However, thoroughly enjoyed the dinner & the views of the Feldkirch area from the castle. On one side of the castle you can view the city while on the other side is a very beautiful view of the hills & valleys. The restaurant serves quality meals. Being a Muslim, we had some fish & vegetarian dishes which were very delicious.
An interesting place to visit with a good museum and plenty of photo opportunities.
The museum is housed in an old castle that dominates the town. The tower offers a nice view over the surroundings and 2 rooms with old rifles and other weapons. Other rooms display old furniture and some church icons and sculptures. I liked the children room.
This is a good museum but you REALLY do need a guide to fully explain things, a lovely location and presents a wonderful range of views of the town.
This is the real deal - a 900 year old castle in great condition. The museum is worth the small price to pay to walk through history and see how people lived hundreds of years ago. There is a cafe in the courtyard that does not require a fee, but pay the fee and enjoy the castle and keep. This alone is worth the trip to Feldkirch (among many other things).
We were lucky to have a local guide who told us all about the castle. The views were amazing. A lot of really old furniture that we wanted to touch until I dug out my phrase book- if they had used the word verboten, then I would have understood.
I was impressed with the state of the building. It seems that many of the original architectural elements are intact. There is also a trove of weapons, furniture, and art spanning the many years of the buildings existence.
The castle is just a few minutes from the Old Town. It was an interesting stop. The museum was 6 Euros to enter. I have seen better museums. But the views from the museum rooms were lovely. The castle is a good photo opportunity.
This is a really good museum but you REALLY do need a guide to fully explain things otherwise it might be really boring if you don't know what you're looking at and will not understand it's significance in Austria's history
It's a good Wiener Schnitzel, the staff are friendly and it's something a bit special because of the location. Wearth a try.
