We mainly visit Caledonia State Park for hiking. Several trails wind though the mountains, and make a great way to spend an afternoon. We prefer the more difficult trails that go to up the mountain-sides, but some easier trails are also available for a nice stroll. One trail uses part of the Appalachian trail as well. At some points, you are fully immersed in the woods and can no longer hear traffic or civilization. Very nice.There is a swimming pool for the summer-time, (for a fee) and it's not bad. I've gone there once and it was nice and refreshing. Large enough and always looks very clean. The changing room/bathroom isn't anything spectacular, but it could be worse. They have a snack-bar, but again, nothing special. I've never camped here, so I cannot comment on that. Caledonia is also a wonderful place for a family picnic or gathering. Lots of tables available throughout the area, many beside the creek that winds through the park. That can mean fun in the water for kids (and adults)! Plenty of parking, too.I think it's a great place for those living around the area. Provides numerous activity choices and a fair number of hiking trails. Great for families, friends, or couples.

Very clean and safe park. I've camped here with family many times and it's become a tradition. Facilities are clean and there is ample parking. Hiking trails are excellent as well.

While we had a great time during 2014 Labor Day weekend, mostly due to company, I have to say that I have never seen worse facilities in my camping experience. Bathrooms and showers looked like they were build 50 years ago and have not been touched since. The paint was peeling inside, the facilities were dirty and smelly.The campsites themselves are ok, but too close to the road for my liking. A bigger road nearby provided plenty of motorcycle rumble at all times of the day.The park (or maybe just our sites 21,22,23) have a lot of spiders as well.The nearby lake (small) is a fun lake to fish. Hiking is OK too.Because of the poor facilities I put this park on my DO NOT RETURN list.

State park conveniently located off of Lincoln hwy on way to Gettysburg. Beautiful day use areas but campsite areas were not well maintained. Good family atmosphere though.

If this is what PA state parks are like in general, they are way ahead of most other states. We camped here for 2 nights. There are lots of great hiking trails, a wonderful creek that runs though the park and great campsites. They are clean, well maintained and spacious. The bathrooms are incredible. Heated! And free hot showers! I'm not used to that. And clean! What more could one ask for. The park is close to Gettysburg so if you're going there and like to camp, this is the place.on one of our hikes we went to the day use area, which has a huge pool and picnic area. A great place for families. The pool wasn't opened yet (I think Memorial Day) but the picnic area is.

This was our first time at Caledonia State Park. The park office was beautiful and modern. But the rest of the campgrounds were not as well maintained. Our campsite was nice, but the pad for the campers was small. The fire ring was positioned on a corner, so you couldn't make a circle around the ring, just a small half circle. The bathrooms need to be updated. The showers were very old, you had to hold the water on while trying to shower. On the positive side, the rangers were nice. They let us pull another picnic table over to our site for more seating room. The hiking trails were great and not too difficult. The location of the campground is good for access to Gettysburg.

Facility has excellent features: camping, swimming, hiking trails, picnic and reunion facilities. On any given day during summer months, one can find people visiting from many other states, but it is particularly a draw for locals, who want a nice place to gather, swim and eat in comfortable atmosphere.

Nice park. Went tent camping for July 4th. Park was clean, had nice walking/hiking trails and the Rangers were really friendly. Had a really nice pool, but it was really crowded (a mix of locals and campers). Only negatives were the sites were really small and most of them were a bit too close to the other campers. Our group stayed in sites 18, 19, and 20. If you aren't reserving all three of the sites together, don't reserve any because they literally connected to each other. Also, the bathrooms were in really bad shape. The water was warm, but they are dirty and in need of upgrade. I would visit again, but would know what I'm getting. Also, there's a Walmart that isn't too far away just in case you forget supplies.

This review is for the Caledonia campground (part of the state park).This was out first time camping at Caledonia. The park itself is beautiful as is the general location in Fayetteville between Gettysburg and Chambersburg. We were part of a large group camping over Memorial Day weekend. The park was fully booked. Most of our group families camped in in the "group camping" area which was a separate area which allowed tent camping. That area had bathrooms with only cold water and no showers. I was told that if they wanted to use showers in the other loops, they had to pay extra.Since we have a popup camper (and a dog), we stayed at the Hosack Run loop. This loop provides electricity on the "inside" of the loop and not on the outside of the loop. We ended up without electricity as the inside loop was booked solid.Even though the loop is clearly graded, we found that MANY of the sites on this loop are not very level. Many of the RV campers on the inside loop had to use leveling blocks (sometime large blocks) to get level. Also, the inside loop sites are way too close together. Very little privacy unless you think looking at a pop-out on the side of a big RV is privacy. It was very contrary to other PA state parks we've visited.I made our reservation for a 20-foot trailer and I could select site 169. However, when I got there I found that the site was not level and barely fit the camper and my car. When my daughter drove up later that Friday evening, there was no room for the allowed second car.We love the outdoors and can have a great time nearly anywhere. But, that being said, I think I would travel further for a better PA state park rather than visit Caledonia again.Other thoughts: Great rangers; front office staff was nice; no camp store; no ice; no firewood available for purchase at the campground. Pool is $3/pp admission. Snack bar has a second counter which faces away from the pool allowing folks just enjoying the Appalachian Trail or other hiking trials an opportunity to buy a lunch, drink or snack.

We have camped at Caledonia 3 times in the past. It is located right along Route 30 and a few miles down the road from Gettysburg. It is an older campground- I can remember my grandmother telling me of when she camped there. The bathhouses need some TLC. They have nice hiking trails. The swimming pool can be crowded because it serves the campground and the local area. The campsites we have reserved in the past were a decent size. We never thought we were crowded. Some of the sites do not have much vegetation between them. Chambersburg is right down the road, so camping needs are close. I am thinking there is a campstore along Route 30 heading toward Chambersburg. I also remember taking the kids go cart racing not far from there. And of course, visiting Gettysburg- always something new to find there!
