Have been here several times (for tours and oktoberfest) and its always great. The tours are very informative and the house is full of activity, ghostly that is. You will have an experience and each time you go, it will be a different ghostly experience. So much so that my boyfriend is not scared to go, haha. Truly worth it. Just call ahead before you go to make sure a tour is available because it is easy to miss them.
Have lived within walking distance of this museum house for almost 2 decades, can't believe it took me so long to take the Friday night tour which is all about the history and hauntings of the place. Way cool!
Small but worth a visit. You really get the feel for what it was like to live in the house years ago. I especially like the kitchen garden.
If you are visiting Frederick, MD, don't miss touring this beautiful home built in the German style. Our tour guide, Pat Miller, was filled with knowledge about both the history & architecture of the home. It was fascinating to see the construction of the home, including clever innovations that were used in the 1700's.A must-see!
The time to go is in December during the Museums Tour in Frederick. They decorate it for Christmas and have re-enactors that give a taste of what it was like then. Fire on the fireplace. And the interesting part is that parts of the building is exposed so you can see the craftmanship that went into making a traditional farmhouse. They had kids activities when I was there but it was a special time.
Really never thought about surviving the winter until you see a root cellar that had to store food for the family for 5 months. Or beams that are 40' long because they had trees big enough to make a 10x10 that long. If this stuff and the history of the families that lived there interest you. You should go. Nice guys telling the stories and nice gift shop.
Anyone with an interest in architecture and local history will enjoy this tour. Our guide was an amazing font of knowledge about the German heritage of this beautiful stone house, built around 1758, and showed us many fascinating details of its original condition interior.
Went with my german class to visit this house and had lunch on the picnic tables right outside of it, and also it had a beautiful garden right outside. :) It was very visually pleasing.
Very fun afternoon. Beautiful setting, good crowd. Beer lines too long and struesel not original German recipe... more like Sara Lee
This is a "day in the life" sort of place - you get a feel for how the settlers lived when this part of Maryland was being settled by German and English, and later Irish, immigrants. Tools, garden, restored rooms -the whole thing.
