We had a great experience here at the Olney theatre seeing Avenue Q. We had no issue getting our tickets from will call and parking while busy wasn't too bad.I can say that you can see the stage well from the back of the theater since we were next to the soundboard! The production and sound quality were excellent. The seats were pretty comfortable and the temperature of the theater was good. I'm not sure how the seating would be at the back of the orchestra or on the sides. The balcony area was relatively small- only about 4 or 5 rows deep. This is not a modern theater but one that has been around for a while. During the intermission you can step outside and get a drink or snack (or eat it inside too.) If I could give 4 1/2 stars I would have. I would certainly return to this theater.
The first visit to the Olney Theatre Center. The staff were friendly and helpful. A Christmas Carol was a one man show and was just amazing. So delighted I bought gift certificates for Christmas stocking stuffers for my local family.
The Olney Theater is one of the oldest professional theaters in the DC area. This venerable institution always maintain high standards with equity actors. The performance we saw was of Clfford Odets' "Awake and Sing!" Subsequent to our attending it received a glowing review in the Washington Post. Olney is an intimate theater with a little over 400 seats. We obtained our tickets at a discount through Goldstar Events and were seated in the back row of the Mezzanine. This turned out to be fine since sight lines were great and it is a small theater without a bad seat in the house. There is plenty of free parking. In addition the Olney Ale House, a delightful restaurant is located righ across the street for before or after inexpensive fare.
I seek out places that have live music. Olney Theatre is excellent quality. I have seen about six shows here. I believe they have 3 theaters on site. Very professional and welcoming. I really like the space and the people that work here.
Always love going there! It's a great little theatre with some fun productions! Love the Olney Theatre!
I took a first grade child to see The Little Mermaid. It was a wonderfully spectacular production..costumes by Pei Lee..terrific set..colorful, fun and joyful. A must see holiday production. Seeing it through a child's eyes made it even more enjoyable. It is on through December 28...and free parking...lots of places nearby to eat. Great evening!
This is a wonderful, small theater that should provide good views from just about any seat in the house. Navigating to the box office was easy, and so was pickup.I saw Avenue Q on Broadway, and have to say that the talent that the Olney brought on to stage Avenue Q was particularly good. Definitely not summer stock quality, but truly professional. Would definitely go again to the Olney.
Recently saw an enjoyable production of My Fair Lady at the Historic Stage at Olney Theater Center. Parking was a bit dicey as there was a show at the same time on the Main Stage. But we got there early, so had little trouble. Sadly, the seats in the older theater are extremely uncomfortable. So while we enjoyed the 3-hour show, I was delighted to finally escape my seat!
I went to the outdoor Shakespeare opening night. What a joy...for we (older) guests we had regular seats. The set, pre-performance by the entertainers, the cast performances were spectacular. Ariel'costume was especially fabulous...all costumes so creative. Really magical. Even the children were entranced...not easy with Shakespearean language so unfamiliar to little ones.
