My husband and I have lives in Columbus for about 3 years and we just recently found this place. It is amazing to say the least! Beautiful walking trails and tons of wildlife with pretty good fishing too.
This park is huge so many trails , great nature center and bison. Darby creek runs along the park and the kids can get in and look for mussels fish etc. Very nice park.
Besides the newest addition of the nature center with all it has to offer, there is the bison to observe in this beautiful park with one of the cleanest waterways treking through it....Darby Creek. Great hiking and biking trails also available along with the picnic/childrens' playground areas. You won't be sorry that you checked it out!
It has 3 sections. We love the Nature Center the most. It has a great indoor creek. The playgrounds are a lot of fun as well in the other 2 areas. There are also great trails.
Many animals along trails, including baby bison! Deer, turtles, frogs, birds.........This park is located in Galloway, OH - not Westerville as caption above states.....Beautiful Nature Center with flowers on roof - center is VERY educational and unique. Many tralis - I like Nature Trail and Cobshell Trail. I have recently started going here every weekend for exercise and fun. Beautiful big rocks outside nature center.........Lovely plants...........
This is an awesome park and there are many things to see. It is the largest of the Metro parks. If you are going to be there a while check out the Nature Center schedule. They have a streamside classroom that you can go out and catch bugs with large nets, bring them ashore and evaluate what you have. You will find that the creak is very clean and the preservation efforts are working. The have Bison in the park which are great to see. There are 18 miles of trails with 1.6 designated for pets. Bring a lunch and spend the day.
I came for the bison. They seemed to be hiding, but walking around the park was nice. This park has a lot of trails and is a short drive from Columbus.
We were in Columbus to watch a hockey game and this park was recommended to us by our RV park host. We went on a cloudy week day and prior to the ranger station opening, but we were able to observe the buffalo lying in the pasture nearby. We walked some of the trails and went along the creek. What a nice, pleasant park! When the ranger station opened we were able to go inside and view the exhibits. We especially loved being able to touch the animal pelts, read the signs, and walk around the open aquarium. Very friendly and informative staff!
Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park has so much to offer for people of all ages! If you're the athletic type, be sure to walk some of the scenic trails offered. Bird watching is an extremely fun activity to do on an afternoon walk, as birds are easy to see. Make time for the off trail nature area (clearly marked) because it offers a good view of Darby creek. If bison are what you want to see (and you will!), visit the Nature Center. You can walk 1.5 miles (approx.) to the Nature Center from a picnic area - Or, drive to the Nature Center (there is a parking lot available). The center opened in 2012, and is an awesome activity for everyone. Some of the highlights include a nature "pool" (showing creek life at different depths), impressive taxidermy, and the observation deck. Bring your walking shoes to visit the bison, because they may be moved to one of the other pastures and you may have to walk to see them (there will be a sign stating where the bison are located). Bring your camera!A great afternoon - and completely free. What more could you want?
There are so many things to see and do in this beautiful Columbus, Ohio Metro Park! Don't forget to visit the Nature Center to learn about the native wildlife.
