This is a definite MUST when visiting Michigan. The Grand Haven musical fountain was absolutely incredible beautiful!I was also so thrilled that it was FREE!Thank you Michigan!!!
It's the last event for the family before putting the kids to bed. For adults once or twice is enough. Take a sweater or jacket it's colder near the water.
This musical fountain really is the same as it has been since I was growing up in this town in the 70s, so if you saw it back then, you do not need to stake out your spot on the grass to watch it again. It is still very cheesy, I'm sorry to say. There are many, many people who like to sit for hours waiting for the fountain, and I guess they will continue to do it, but the best thing to actually do is get off the blanket, towel, or chair, and walk along the boardwalk! It is marvelous to walk along the channel out to the state park and down the pier. What a jewel the Grand River is, as well as Lake Michigan!
After a walk on the boardwalk & a visit out to the lighthouse, enjoy a evening of music & colored lights at waterfront stadium. Some call it the "musical toliet" but it's amazing to see the water sway to the beat of the music. Usually starts just after dusk and last about 20 minutes.
The Musical Fountain show was pretty cool! It lasted about a half hour and you pretty much had a good view regardless of where you sat. There was an awkward pause towards the end and people started leave because there wasn't any music playing. We went over Labor Day weekend and the show started at 9:30 instead of 10- due to it getting darker earlier. If you come into town, definitely check it out, but be sure to check with the locals on the start time.
We were there for the July 4 fireworks. The music from the fountains was nearly unintelligible. The water display was ok. The fireworks were excellent for a small town display. They close the streets to allow crowds to watch.
But you get what you pay for -- which is $0. It's fun to watch but the audio can be tough to hear some times. But, grab an ice cream and come by and watch.
A great way to end a fun summer day is to stay till dark, find a seat on the bleachers, and wait for a delight in light, sound, and water. Grand Haven has done a great job w/putting music, light and the fountain together for a show that all ages will enjoy. It only lasts 20minutes, so it's perfect!
An historic reminder of entertainment with few bells and whistles. A great place to sit and eat your ice cream after strolling the Grand Haven Boardwalk.
The fountain is just a cool thing to see. Its not to long and right downtown. The sound is great and the colors are fantastic. Amazing what they can do with water.
