We often walk up to the tower to enjoy the view and get exercise. We recommend it to visitors when asked what should they see. It's just a nice place to visit. Not hard to find or to get to. Like the paths and the stone benches to rest on. Often see people walking their dogs, or bike riding. Worth the stop.
Don't miss this little gem when leaf peeping. The road is narrow & not well maintained but the view from the top is incredible. Sad to see some loitering and graffiti (I imagine it's hard to patrol regularly) and parking is limited but you can get a great view of the area and there are nice walking trails around it. Photographers paradise.
My husband and I have always loved this place. It's great to visit alone or as a couple. With a rustic feel, the hike is not too short or long from the car to the tower itself. My favorite time to visit is in the Fall with my camera where I've taken some really great shots (see below). It's definitely worth a visit! Not too far way are some other great attractions if you like to be outdoors and make a day of it--the Bridge of Flowers, Glacial Potholes (both in Shelburne Falls), and Mount Sugarloaf (near the Yankee Candle flagship store in Deerfield, also great) are within 30 minutes of each other. I've posted reviews to each. Coffee shops and restaurants are nearby in all cases. Enjoy!
It's usually kind of messy and looks unkept. There is little parking and as nice of a view as it is....well it is just Greenfield. If the view was at the actual peak overlooking both Turners, Montague, the Connecticut river and Greenfield I may be a little more impressed.
It's a tower at the top of th mountain that overlooks the town. It's a nice view, and you could do some hiking around the area, but it is what it is. I wouldn't go out of your way for it, but if you're in Greenfield, it's worth a swing by.
Excellent view of surrounding area. Beautiful in the fall. Got some great pictures. And all for free.
The panoramic view provided by Poet's Seat Tower is amazing. It is a must visit during the fall, for the beautiful foliage in the area, with church steeples peeping through the fall leaves. It's the ultimate hilltop view of New England!
A great place to walk and sight see- also a good place to smoke pot. Local kids were there drinking beers and crushing them on their heads- which was a little strange. Then the children encouraged us to smoke some pot with them- really weird, right?? I dont know- I will absolutely come back!
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place while driving through Greenfield. Incredible view of the town and the panoramic view was breathtaking with autumn foliage!
Historic brick tower built in the mid 1800's on a hill overlooking Greenfield and Montague. Free access. About 65 steps (metal stairs) to the top. Unfortunately to learn about it I had to use Wikipedia... there is little on site to give its history. Lovely seating area over looking the valley. 5 minute drive to Hope & Olive for a great meal.We started our outing by going to the Peace Pagoda in North Leverett, which is really worth going to visit.
