My wife and two sons ages 11 and 12 had a wonderful experience! My boys were a little nervous about rafting but now want to go "up" on next reip levels 3 & 4! Our guide Jared was tremendous and he made us feel safe, comfortable and we had a blast! We loved running the level 2 and 3 rapids as well as the water fight with the other boat! Jared grew up right on the river so he had alot od great stories and history. Highly recommend for a great family time!
These folks know what they are doing and are friendly and professional. We rented kayaks for 7 of us and let's say it took us longer than we thought to get down the hudson from Thurman. The SOC crew was waiting for us "after hours" and charged us a reasonable late fee. They were pleasant to our group and we can't wait to come back for some rafting ! Jason was the only name we remember at check in, but everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful
I must admit, I am not the adventurous type but my family talked me into doing this with them and I'm glad they did. My husband reserved over the phone. When we arrived, the guides fitted us for life vests, separated us into groups. We were loaded onto schools buses and taken to the river entrance. Our assigned guide gave clear rules and instructions and all groups boarded the sturdy, self-draining rafts. The rafts hold up to 8-9 plus the guide and all rafts travel down the river in order. The rapids were great fun and not dangerous but you will get wet! We had a water battle with water guns and buckets before gliding into a calm stretch of water where we were given the opportunity to swim the dark waters of the river for about 25 minutes. We climbed back in to finish the trip with stronger class 3 rapids. The SOC had a photographer on the shore taking group pics of each raft in the rapids. Your guide makes sure you are ready for your shots. Just after that, the trip was over and we all jumped out and helped the guide carry the raft up the hill.THEN, we hiked up a thick-canopied, wooded hill, to the SOC which was our starting point (where the buses picked us up). Bring water shoes, towels and a change of clothes! You can buy or rent water shoes from them if you have none but they will not allow things like flip-flops. There are a couple of dressing rooms in the center.I couldn't believe I did it! And I enjoyed it! We all gave it and our wonderful guide SAM the THUMBS-UP!!!!!!!THANKS SOC!
Dropped our children (14 and 15 at the time) off, they loved it. As parents, we very impressed by the amount of care and attention that was taken with safety precautions; good explanations, lots of checks to ensure safety jackets (etc) were the right comfortable fit.
Nice guides, beautiful river, but very tame water. They claim it is a class 2/ 3, but it felt more like a class 1/2. It's not very challenging, in fact a bit of a yawner and mostly underwhelming. (Perfect for 5 year olds, though:)
This was my first kayaking experience. I along with 8 other family/friends rented kayaks from SOC. All I can say is it took us MUCH longer than we thought and like a previous reviewer wrote, the staff was waiting for us "after hours" They could have soaked us for fees, as we were almost 2-3 hours late on a Sunday. We were exhausted as we had kayaked for 18 miles on a mostly windy day!! They were gracious and kind, Class act. For that reason, I HIGHLY recommend this outfit and when we return next year, we will be back. This time planning accordingly!!!My only suggestion: Before we left I asked if they had a map and they said no. That would have helped immensely. A map that shows potential "get out" points. Also, I think for themselves they should ask people where they are putting in and getting out and that way they could give advice on how long it would take. They could also advise it will XXX amount of hours. If I had known it was going to be a 6 hour adventure, we would have parked the cars in a different location to shorten the trip by about 3 hours ;) Thanks again!!Shannon Kelly
Wow !! had a great time the staff was funny and informative. I can't wait to do this again!! Fantastic Job!The Building needs a little improvement like changing rooms lockers and Bathrooms. Maybe a Hot dog truck.
I wanted to try rafting but the 17 mile Hudson run seemed long. I decided to take my family on the 1.5 hour trip. It was class 2 and 3 rapids going down and they were great. Just enough excitement for all. Ryan was our guide. He was fantastic. Got us through the rapids and made it fun for all of us. Stopped in the middle and let us all go in for a quick dip. Then more rapids. What a rush. We had such a great time we actually did the 17 mile run the next day. Definitely recommend them.
Tubing is the way to go, perfect if you're the only tubers on the river and even better if Caleb is your guide. Too bad that summer is almost over, because he'll have to go back to school. It was a cloudyish day and the water temp was cooler than usual, but the fun we had was amazing, despite the really tight fitting PFDs. Thanks Caleb for keeping us entertained during the calmer portions of the trip and for guiding us to the more turbulent, aka fun sections of the river.Good luck with your shop!
This white water rafting trip with SOC is fun, exciting, and engaging for the entire family. With only Class II, III waves, this is an ideal experience for the first-timer, regardless of age. The guides are passionate, friendly and encouraging not to mention great targets during the water battles between rafts. Get ready for some wet river fun!
