The University, the Rathaus, the beers, the lovely Yufkas kebabs, the church. The caffee und kuchen. It is magnificent.
Took a nice walk through the Old Town and stopped at various shops, churhes and other landmarks. The town is quite beautiful and we picked a good day for this as the weather was sunny and nice. This is a very traditional old town in Europe with a lot of charm.
I spent a full day in Heidelberg exploring the old city and visiting the castle. I downloaded an app called GPSmyCity for Heidelberg which provided an interesting walking tour filled with history and stories of the city. Heidelberg is an amazing place with lots of little things to discover - from shops and cafes to architecture and statues. It is an energizing and global city with people from all over. Come with an appetite and keep your camera always at the ready. There is a lot to discover.
Unfortunately we only had the late afternoon, the city looked nice and calm. Very nice typical architecture. Also a lot of young people
Give yourself plenty of time to roam around Old Town, shop, sightsee, eat and drink. Don't rush your visit. Lots to see and do in this historic place. Don't miss the old bridge, Heidelberg University, the cathedral and the castle! A place to relax and be on vacation without the big city hubbub.
I am planning yet another trip to Germany and looking through TripAdvisor, I realized I never reviewed Heidelberg. What?! Heidelberg is one of our favorite places in Germany. It is full of charm and has plenty of places to admire, eat and shop. Some may complain that it is too touristy, but I promise this is no over-touristed, unbelievably crowded Rudesheim. It is a vibrant working city full of cute shops, restaurants, street musicians, awesome pastries (and cookies), old architecture, spectacular views, cobblestones, flowers, a funicular, a castle and HISTORY. It is lovely and so fun to walk around. We've been here many times and I will return again, I am sure.
I had an amazing time in Heidelberg with my cousin who study there.. I stay there for a week during the Christmas season. Nice atmosphere you can walk on feet to the castle and also to the old bridge from the old town.
You can feel safe walking around here at any time of the day and whilst there are plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and stalls it is the many back streets that you should wander down and explore. This part of Germany was spared the heavy bombing of other areas so the many buildings are original.English is widely spoken so have no hesitation in just getting lost.
