Had a great time at Pete's bar. Bartender James was awesome, very attentive and almost protective. After learning that we were visiting from Boston he kept an eye on us, coming over after a few less than desirable folks approaches us making sure we were OK. Drinks were good, prices were great. Fun atmosphere, lots of pool tables, ping pong tables, video games available. Music playing, lots of old memorabilia on the walls. Staff proud of this establishment, boasting that it was one of the first bars to open after prohibition. James keep up the good work!!!
We stayed at One Ocean last week. This bar was right across the parking lot so we started there first. Wow, glad we stopped by. It's a great bar filled with friendly locals. If I lived in the area, I would go there nightly. We went there the next day too, on Friday night. It was crowded and even got to meet the owner. Had a great visit with him about alligator hunting. It doesn't look like much on the outside but it is a hidden gem. I highly recommend stopping in for a visit.
I am a visitor to Jacksonville Bearh a couple times a year. Went for a beach walk up to Neptune Beach and decided that any bar opened since the 30's has to be visited. 5 1/2 hours later, Knob Creek and two cigars I made this the place to go to to relax after a hard day of work. Great friendly people, super service and just great place to meet real down to earth people.
And smoke everywhere else! Do not go if you are expecting anything other than a pool hall that serves beer and liquor. No wine available and everyone there including the bartender smokes heavily.......does not serve any food at all.
Smoky, smelly and kind of interesting. Free pool and other table games. But this place is old and hasn't had a face lift in forever. Mostly friendly service and inexpensive drinks.
I am not into pool but my friend was so needless to say I did not play but I did enjoy watching, so if you like to play pool or just enjoy watching then this is the place for you
Stopped by to see Joey who has bar tended there foreverGood experienceLittle smokey but you get over it
old schoo,l throw back locals bar. don't be intimidated, everyone fits in. you'll see your yardman, and your accountant in here. cheap drinks, 25cent pool games, juke bok from Sinatra to metalicca, to Dylan.john grishman wrote "the bretheren" hanging out in this place. a must see experience.
I asked the bar tender of the Tiki Bar at the Hampton Beach Front where is a good place to play pool in Jacksonville and she suggested I go to Pete's Bar. That was EXCELLENT advice as it turned out. Pete's Bar, I was told, has the oldest liquor license in the Jacksonville area. It has 25 cent pool tables, a ping pong table ( a new ping pong ball cost 25 cents) and there seems to always be great competition on the tables and very nice people to socialize with.Of course if you are not into the typical pool bar where everyone is letting their hair down and having a good time it may be just another dive bar to you, but it was definitely what I was looking for and I had a great time there.
this is a historic staple complete with pool tables ping pong juke box and cash only bar and tons of smoke - but thats part of its allureyou can find random people dressed in beach attire, dresses, food service staff after work and even a StantaIf you dont like smoke or locals in flip flops and shorts then this isnt the place for you
