I think I walked for almost an hour to this monastery. It was a good walk and passed places that you can enjoy along the way. The monastery has a tranquil feel and one will feel peace. There are still nuns living in the quarters and they are self sufficient. They have a small shop that sells souvenirs made or planted by the nuns. Looking at their schedule, the nuns follow a very strict routine. I am not sure if this is the usual touristic spot, but there is a small cosy chapel that you can spend some time.
it's very far from Hakodate central & requires a change to bus frm the last tram station + some walking then only you'll reach since this is a monasteries where they live in seclusions. I like this place for it's idea and some how for a person like me that couldn't live without my mobile phone & computer for even a day, I respect these ppl dat dedicated their whole life & time in seclusions and religion works. The monasteries is not open for view since they're livin in seclusions (a short reminder this is more to a religion site so I do not recommend for visitors that expect to see more things or have fun). Visitors can only view the outside of the building, the small church & statues in the open garden & do buy their home made butter candy & yummy cakes as support. The side exhibition near their shop showcase their daily life routine as well
An European monastery garden setting, with statues of the Virgin Mary and St. Michael. We arrived late in the afternoon, near closing time, and there were few tourists around, which allowed us to take some colorful pictures of the surround in Autumn. We bought some madeline and biscuits to support the Monastery/Convent. These were good, substantial not the over fluffy commercial types. They were ment to be taken away - not for consumption on the premises.
This place is very close to the airport, if you arrive at Hakodate airport, this would be your first stop. A pretty, enchanted covenant- not so big but historical site. A small gift shop sells nuns' handmade crafts and home made Madelaine, which were known for. I expected to meet nuns at the gift shop, but for some reason, all shop clerks were young ladies who didn't seem related to the church but selling the products on site. This was disappointing and didn't understand why nuns didn't sell products that they could have saved $ for hiring someone to sell stuff there...
