The first stop on our most recent visit to Hermann...and we made the choice specifically on the fact we knew they would have a warm fire, good sausage and cheese, and a decent red wine. Before ordering our food, we did the wine tasting...and while I don't agree with paying $4 per person to try wine, I did so to make sure the wine we chose was decent. Best part of the wine tasting...was the person who poured the wine...you could tell her wine knowledge was limited...especially when she compared the wine we were about to taste to eating a stick of butter. After the description, the wine didn't taste very good!We will be happy to return again, when the weather warms and sitting outside is possible.
This was our first (of many) wine stops in and around Hermann, MO. Although I rarely pay for wine tastings, I did here ($4). The server was a jewel---and we were able to taste additional wines. Luckily, an order of 4+ bottles provides a 15% discount---so some of the tasting fees were absorbed. The Germantown wine is winner--even for a white wine connoisseur!
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Wine tasting was $4 but tasted all I was interested in. Cute little deli and store with the wine tasting.
Will I go back? Maybe. The quality of the wine is decent but the experience of tasting was lacking. There is a small fee to taste which is understandable. We selected our wines and then went through with the tasting with little explanation or conversation with the employee. This lasted less than ten minutes. We inquired about the tour and were told that there is not a guided tour but we could go into the cellars. We did but there is nothing to see but bricks and stone. There is no explanation or examples of the wine making process. Very disappointing.
We were cycling the Katy Trail and decided to stop for some wine tasting in Hermann. We had a great time at Hermannhof tasting the wines with Vicki and the sausage and cheese samples with Charlene. Both ladies were totally fun. Thanks. -Chris and Peter, cyclists from California
My husband and I were staying at the Hermannhof Inn and decided to walk over and do some wine tasting. We ended up spending our whole afternoon there! Billy was wonderful at the wine tasting presentations. He gave us a few complimentary pairings (such as chocolate or cheese). He and Charlene were incredibly friendly and knowledgable. We tasted some wine, toured their wine cellar, and bought a basket for 2 (with cheese, sausage, bread, and an apple). We each received a free glass of wine for staying at the Inn. We sat by the fire and enjoyed our wine and snacks. It was a relaxing and fun afternoon. The wine was delicious. My husband isn't typically a wine drinker but he found a few he really enjoyed. Our favorites were the Stagswoods Red and the Vignoles. We would absolutely go back!
I was there on a Sunday during Oktoberfest. The four of us had a couple of overpriced bottles of mediocre wine and ate there. The place was not very crowded and it was late in the afternoon. We decided to use the restroom before we left for our drive back to St. Louis. Several of us were turned down when we asked to use the restroom. They instructed us to use the porta potties either down the hill or up the hill. I can not and will not support an eating and drinking establishment that does not provide restrooms on the premises for their patrons. I would think this is against health regulations in many counties including Gasconade County.
A wonderful historic spot to visit. Love stopping in here and grabbing a bite to eat whenever we're in town. My favorite wine was found here too - Germantown! Love it. Not so sure I like paying for wine tasting - however, I can understand that they are on a budget.
We have always come here. The hospitality of the staff and friendly welcoming we receive each visit is outstanding. We enjoy sitting on top of the hill overlooking the town. There are stone cottages scattered through the hill. Great site when enjoying your favorite wine.
Hermann is a great town near the Missouri river which celebrates its German heritage well. A beautiful village which is immaculately clean and very welcoming. Hermannhof is the grandest attraction in town. Spend a day and night in town, you will be delighted.
