This one is an easy review. Go see them perform. End of story. They are amazing. They play a form of music that is just amazing for the culture. They push the boundaries while respecting their elders. And the flutist; wow! She can play a flute like none other...Please, do not miss Brule live at Highland Ranch or elsewhere. Our teens absolutely loved it. Hats off to the band players and the performers.
We saw this show's reviews on TripAdvisor and knew we should give it a try. We stayed right at the ranch it is performed at and were greatly impressed. The music was wonderful, the dancers had such talent, and one member of the band shared his personal story of his own Native American culture to add to the show. It is a "don't miss" show for sure, and we definitely saw some people there that were obviously regulars at this spectacular show.
We had a fantastic experience watching the traditional Native American Dancers along with the not-so-traditional live music and story-telling. This is a class-act!
Great show, the dancers were amazing well worth the admission would highly recommend if traveling thru the hills great family fun.
Booked this for something to do in the evening, and was sooo glad I did! This is a very good performance. The music is respectful of the Native American culture. And the dancers will have you whoopin' and hollerin'! The flute player is amazing. She makes sounds with that instrument that I have never before heard. Young Children seated near us were mesmerized. Worth every penny!!
Overall, great music and a wonderful show. The normal concert style flute is not meant to be played in that way and it sounded amazing. The father had some great stories to tell in between sets and his jokes were pretty good too. Would watch again.
We hadn't planned to see this show until just a few hours before the performance, but so glad we did. Although I was expecting a more traditional musical experience (I'll admit I booked tickets only after seeing a picture of the dancers) the Yanni-like music enriched with traditional Naive American drums and exceptional flute playing was amazing. The dancers were mesmerizing to watch, their costumes were gorgeous, and stories told by the founder of the band, Paul LaRoche voice and the dancers movements were beautiful. The outside amphitheatre was a perfect place to have the performance as the sun went down (gets a bit chilly so be prepared). VIP seating was worth the extra $. Buy tickets early to ensure they don't sell out and arrive early to get good seats. We loved the pizza, calzones, and frybread (the nachos used Fritos instead of tortilla chips, which were ok but not my preference.) Adult beverages were available and very cheap! We stayed at the High Country Ranch and saved $ on tickets which was a great bonus. *Separate review for the lodging and horseback riding*
It was like Cirque du Soleil but with Native Americans and no bungy cords. We loved it. It was my daughter's birthday and in July it was a cool night. Great to have wine, beer, treats and soda available for a decent price as we watched and enjoyed the fabulous show. From the mixture of humor, tenderness, authenticity, showmanship, musicianship and just overall talent. It was a terrific way to spend a special night, and a most memoriable experience that we feel can only come from South Dakota natives.a wonderful blend of modern music and native culture. everyone should go see this when they are in the area.
Brule is a must see when in Hill City, SD or wherever they may perform. The music is uplifting and great fusion of various music styles with Native American rhythm The dance adds to the interpretation of the music. We had a fantastic time.
This was truly an amazing performance for all the senses! The flutist, the other musicians, the dancers, the stories and the message were all just amazing! Our daughter loved it and because we stayed at High Country Ranch we were able to hear the performance other nights as well. In speaking with the drummer after the performance we learned that Brule' will be coming to a city not too far from our home for a performance this fall. Our daughter is already asking to go. I highly recommend Brule'.
