We have brought our grandsons here in the Fall for a hayride and peach picking, twice. The peaches are delicious and the quantity we bring home when we go impells us to make all sorts of peach products, like cakes and pies. The peaches are fine just as they come off the trees, and the kids enjoy eating peaches that they picked themselves. Take the hayride up the hill to the orchard. They also have a lot of apple trees for picking, but we prefer the peaches.
Nice family run farm. You can go to pick fresh produce or go get a deli made sandwich. This place has been around for over 100 years and is an institution. If you go you have to try to donuts and the potato pancakes. So cool to have a place like this so close to home.
The Good:Pumpkin PatchHay RidesSee some farm animalsReadily gave a refund after charging $9 for a bag to put apples in (when there were none left!)The Bad:All of New Jersey turned up at once - no discernible organization, or way to deal with sheer numbers of people, no signposted parking, no real signposting for anythingHave to pay $5 each just to get into the Orchard, and wait in a giant line to pay, and another to get on the hay rideApple Picking - still selling bags when there are no apples left on the trees, they have been replaced by hundreds of apparently abandoned kids If you can get off work in the middle of the week to go, that would be the only option, but if you can do that, just drive out further to avoid the marauding hordes
The folks here work hard to make this a nice overall experience where you can bring the entire family for special events like Halloween, Fall apple and pumpkin picking, and the really excellent August NJ wine tasting. This last event is really special and we have enjoyed this for several years.
I love this place! I go there for lunch all the time.. the food is great and there are plenty of choices to pick from : the hot bar, the deli, or the amazing salad bar, but my favorite are the cinnamon apple cider donuts!!!!In the summer I love to go peach picking, and in the fall I love to go do apple picking! The bags they sell hold about 9 pounds of fruit. This means you are getting what you pick for about $1.00/pound when in most stores it's closer to $1.99/pound. That's a great deal! And as for spending the $5/person on the hayride, it's about the experience. I personally believe $29 for a family of 4 to have a nice day out, get a little exercise, pick some peaches/apples, and spend time with each other is cheap! The lines do get long at times but they move fast and all of the staff I dealt with were very friendly. Also, in the summer on Thursday nights they have an unlimited BBQ with the best BBQ ribs I've ever tasted and great music. And every year usually one weekend in August, they hold the NJ wine festival which I look forward to all year! I love Demarest Farms!
Fun place to bring children! Having a picnic lunch. Enjoying walking through all the local fruits, vegetables and yummies! Fun times to go in the fall!!
On Thursday nights they have a great all you can eat bar b que with chicken, ribs, hot dogs, salad, corn on the cob and watermelon. I suggest you get there early as it does fill up.
We came for the corn maze, there was one but tiny and all rotten. Then to pick your pumpkin, you just have to choose from a batch of pumpkins just throw on the ground. But most of it, it is disgusting, with paper and plastic trash all over. Don't go!
I've been coming to Demerest Farm for about 20 years. I used to work nearby so about 2-3 times per month we would come here for lunch. During the week the farm is not too crowded, the food is very fresh, but the prices are higher than expected. Their apple cider is delicious, but again, very expensive. In the fall they have apple picking and pumpkin picking. I've never been pumpkin picking, but the apple picking is fun if you get there during the first 2 weekends and early in the day. Don't bother after that because either the apples are gone or the parking is so bad you won't get a spot. For the most part, Demerest Farm is the last year round farm in the area. I definitely them for lunch, but only a few times a month because of the high pricing.
With a petting zoo, deli, market...nice place to visit and to bring kids. Plenty of parking too. Also a lot of things to do nearby.
