This small downtown museum added another perspective to my Lincoln history... Lots to see and friendly hometown folks to welcome and explain various displays.
Liked: They pack alot in and have several well done displays with full-sized figures interespersed with many artifacts.
The museum is small, but informative and held my interest. Even the gift shop had unique/unusual items. The wax figures, dioramas, and artifacts were well done and thoroughly explained key events in Lincoln's life.
This was a very thorough and well-done museum. It had many facts and a lot of historic replicas from Lincoln's documents. The wax figures kept scaring me because they looked so real!!! They also had an awesome gift shop. It was very fun and I would go again!
My wife and I stopped here after touring the National Historic site - Lincoln's birthplace - just a couple miles from Hodgenville. President Lincoln's birthplace and boyhood home are just few miles apart in this area. The privately run museum was a much better experience that the national historic site, which has a decent video, but only a very limited museum section with no real artifacts from Lincoln. Even the log cabin is a reconstruction inside a memorial bldg. which looks out of place in this former farm land. The Lincoln Museum in town however gives a broad view of Lincoln's early life and his presindecy. It contains many artifacts, mainly newspaper printings, numerous life size dioramas taking you through each period of Lincoln's life including Mary Todd and children. The final dioramas are of the funeral train, which followed the same route that Lincoln took when he travelled from Illinois to the White House. There are two floors in the museum which is located right on the town square. The 2nd floor contained interesting and varied artwork of the Lincoln era, including many Lincoln portraits. The gift shop too has many worthwhile souvenirs of your visit at very reasonable prices. Entry fee is only $2/person.
The Lincoln Museum has amazing displays and wonderfu artifacts. There is also a very nice gift shop located in the museum. Two statues of Lincoln are located just outside the doors of the museum........ and the Sweet Shop is there too! Amazing Fudge!
The Lincoln Museum in Hodgenville, KY, is a must stop when you are in the area to visit the National Park Service Abraham Lincoln Birthplace that is just a short drive from this museum. The museum building itself is on the National Register of Historic Places and houses a vast array of memorabilia and artifacts pertaining to the life of Lincoln. The first floor contains twelve life-like dioramas of the life and times of Lincoln from his early boyhood to his assassination at the Ford Theater. The upper level are the exhibits and memorabilia devoted to Lincoln’s lifetime. The museum is open daily and there is a very modest admission fee. The museum does close at 4:30 PM so you need to get there early enough to allow time to view all the displays.
There's lots of history here but not many artifacts from Abe. There were things of that era and lots to look at and read. There is a very large shop of Lincoln items for sale. I'm glad I visited.
The Lincoln Museum is 3 miles from the National Park and 6 miles from his Birthplace. The museum makes a good stop to get drenched in Lincoln history then go have a picnic at either of the other parks. The museum is full of information, artifacts, wax figures and has a fun gift shop for your souvenir purchase. Don't forget to check out the prints in the restrooms! Amazing! vacation ips
