I found the Glassometry brochure at the B&B where my husband and I were staying to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The forecast was calling for rain so we thought an indoor activity like glass blowing would be fun. Ian made our reservation and was super friendly (in fact, he was the nicest person we met in Hood River where everyone was friendly!). We arrived a bit early and were able to watch Laurel and Kevin work prior to our class. For our pieces, I chose an ornament and my husband chose to make a rock glass. We started with ornament, and I was a bit disappointed that it took about two minutes to make. However, the rock glass took many more steps and we got a chance to talk with Kevin more about the process of glass blowing, his background, etc. We learned a lot and have some items to celebrate our 10th anniversary. It was clear these folks have a passion for what they do!
I drove over from Portland to check out the studio. I had been looking forward to having a day to do this for quite awhile. When I got there, I discovered the place was closed, but one of the staff members was there and let me in to see the glass. They were replacing the ceramic bowl in the gathering furnace and he explained the process which I really appreciated. Got a beautiful ornament and a glass that made me think of warm days in Maui. Thank you so much for going out of you way. You made my day!!
Beautiful glass work fir sale. Great fun to watch glass blowing. My daughter made me an ornament which was engraved with the date. The ornament has to be slooowly cooled, so you have to come back for it or have it shipped.
The glass atrtist is truly talented. Not just glass, but metal as well. The gardens have cool sculptures. The goddess lives up there!
Nice owner, impressive site with plenty of space and a variety of products, but nothing I felt compelled to buy or bring home. Was unaware of the glass blowing opportunity, just stopped by to see the work and maybe take home a souvenir, but it was all a bit too flowery for our taste.
Enjoyed my visit here got to pick my glass work. Small place but a lot of choices if you are looking for glass art work. They do customize work.
We stopped at Glassometry as part of our tour on the fruit loop. The glass wear they had was beautiful, and unique (especially compared to all the glass places in Lincoln City I had been too) and we really wanted to blow our own glass here. I loved the apples and the Christmas ornaments. At the time we were there, only one girl was working, and the manager/owner was outside in a meeting. We wanted to blow our own glass, but the girl didn't feel comfortable doing the apples/pumpkins with us by herself, and we understood and made appointments to come back the next afternoon. The next morning we got a call saying the employee who was suppose to help us was sick and asking to reschedule. Unfortunately we weren't in Hood River any longer after that, so we didn't get to return. We were very disappointed, as we loved the products they had to offer and felt it to be a very open and inviting studio/business. I would love to go back in the future and make the apple and ornament that I wanted in the first place, and understand that things can happen. Loved the glass tumblers (which I would have bought them - was planning to when we returned, which didn't happen). Beautiful views from the parking lot, hope to return. Glass blowing prices here were much more reasonable than the Oregon coast, which was great, as we all more variety. Would recommend making appointments in advance, to save any disappointment. Definitly worth the stop.
Since we are always looking for interesting art studios and galleries this was just up our alley. We just happened across a sign advertising the studio. When we walked in the owner/artist was working on blowing glass pendant lights for a special order. We sat and watched her work for almost an hour - it was Fascinating and the artist explained each step as she did it. She had an art piece that she was working on that was gorgeous. The shop had a large selection of pendant lights, vases and other objects for sale. The artist chatted with us for quite awhile and expressed a desire to move more into commissioned pieces.
We booked a 4 hour class at the studio and it was well worth it. They jumped right in showing us how to work with molten glass. The studio is beautiful and full of interesting pieces. The staff is friendly and always ready to help. We had a great time and love the pieces we made at the class.
Elinore quickly made calls and Kevin and Laurel came to the shop so we could blow glass. The entire staff, Laurel, Elinore, Kevin and Ian were GREAT! We enjoyed talking with them and seeing their beautiful work! Laurel Marie Hagner and Kevin are very talented glass blowers! We told Kevin that we wanted to do as much ourselves as possible, we have blown 10 pieces at different places. This is one of the BEST places that we have blown glass; EXCELLENT works of ART! Kevin allowed us to customize our pieces to our taste with color and shape. We blew four pieces (flower, cups and mugs) which are BEAUTIFUL! They shipped our glass and they arrived in perfect condition. Thanks to Laurel, Elinore, Kevin and Ian for such a WONDERFUL lifetime experience. They also engrave your art with your personal message for FREE!
