Our guide, Racheal was fantastic and answered every question we could think of and knew the history of the family that lived there as well as their relatives in great detail. We spent two hours at the plantation and thouroughly enjoyed every minute. My wife and sister stated it was the highlight of our trip to the New Orleans area. We were happy we chose this tour instead of the other high priced tours of other plantations. The $6.00 admission charge is a fantastic bargain.
My Wife is into checking out local museums when we travel and this one was really nothing special to see. That was something I never hear my Wife comment on. They need to make this just a little more interesting.
The place is clean, organized and very nice. The staff is friendly, the girl that does the tour has very good knowledge of the history of the place. The exhibition inside is very good, however only one room is original to the house, still you can feel the history in the place
I think this museum acquaints visitors with history of Terrebonne Parish. The house is lovely and full of interesting exhibits. The guides are great.
The curator showed us around and gave us an interesting background to plantation living and life in the Mississippi Delta. As well as the explaining about the cultivation of indigo and sugar there are displays describing many things including Mardi Gras and local Native American communities. Well worth the six dollar entrance fee
Really enjoyed our visit, the tour guide (sorry but, I didn't get her name), was just great, very knowledgeable about the plantation. Not only displays the history of the planation, but, about regional history, great intro to the region and makes the past come alive in the rooms. Very well done. I didn't realize that this region had a strong presence of native Americans. Traveled with my wife and son and his fiancée, good for family, not for really small children. Stop by the gift shop, some good finds in there.
The tour shows the history of the area very well. The tour guide was great at explaining the family history that owned the museum. They had a very large collection of bone china, which was donated. The cost was $6.00 per person.
Not a lot to do in Houma, but we were looking to visit a real plantation. This tour focuses more on Houma, which was an interesting bit of history. The tour guide was very engaged and interesting, so worth a look if you're already in town.
Good historical tour of a former sugarcane plantation. My favorite part of the house is the stained glass by the main entrance and my favorite part of the tour is the gift shop! (But they don't take credit cards.)
I went with my 8year old and we truly enjoyed ourselves! Our tour guide Ed knew everything there was to know about the plantation. He was a joy to hang out with.
