I have been to several exhibits at this museum, the only one I did not like was The Living Lights Glow. It was not very entertaining, I loved the rest of the museum though ! I am looking forward to more exhibits like the Titanic and a the dinosaur exhibits.
We had this museum on our list but our timing was off. The very nice lady there explained that they were currently "between exhibits" and the new one was still in the construction phase. Closed.
This museum has many good displays about Idaho Falls and Bonneville county. In addition, they bring in exhibits that usually only come to much larger cities. These outside exhibits are always professionally done and very informative. Our family has enjoyed visiting nearly all of these exhibits. In December, the museum has a large display of gingerbread houses made by locals that is very fun to visit.
We have had many top-rate exhibits at this museum. We are so lucky to have this in our city. The last one I visited was the journeys to the North Pole. We have also had a King Tut exhibit, one on blood, the Titanic, Holocaust and of course, Sue the dinosaur.
The Museum of Idaho has hosted some truly outstanding exhibits. One of the most recent, "Guitars" was reviewed favorably by the New York Times. In addition to the excellent traveling exhibits, there is also a local historical museum. A local architect firm did a wonderful job of combining the former Masonic Hall with the formercity library (a Carnegie) to house this facility. I doubt there are many towns of our size with a museum of this quality.
The Glow Living Lights exhibition is far below the standard of exhibits I am used to seeing at this museum. The regular exhibit is interesting to a first time visitor.
I was truly disappointed. I called the Museum of Idaho and they said they have lots of jellyfish. I call them Jellies. I got down paid to go in and it was only pictures of Jellyfish. I walked back said I wanted my money back and the woman was snooty, and said what did you expect this is Idaho Falls, we can't bring in the real jellyfish. I told her I was in small town in Utah and they had a tank set up,
For a small museum the Museum of Idaho has had some exceptional exhibitions which I have ready enjoyed. One of the things that I have appreciated in most of the exhibits has been the fact that you have something in the exhibit which appeals to all different age groups. One recent one that I attended was the Carousel Art. It was fascinating and really gave me an appreciation of that goes into the Carousel and the art pieces. The X-Rex was an incredible learning experience and it was fascinating to watch people's reactions to the exhibit. Looking forward to more. The staff are working hard to keep it current but still keep some of the historical flavor that is part of Idaho Falls/Eagle Rock.
I loved this museum. Easy to follow the attractions. Loved Idaho Falls. The ride from Boise, Idaho which was where I was vacationing was up the canyon with beautiful scenery. Unfortunately they were repairing the road so we had to stop on the way up and the way down. The wait was about 20-30 minutes then you followed the lead vehicle for several miles. No problem, with the scenery to see while you waited you didn't mind the wait !!~!!
They seem to be able to pack a lot into the museum, and they have some very interesting revolving exhibits from time to time.
