I've been here a few times, but Friday was the worst. I cannot complain too much, because the deal is amazing. On Friday Nights it is Family light, and if you have 5 people in your party you pay $20 plus you get a large pizza and drink. BUT it is so many people, and the wait is forever. They also need to do something about having so many people skating. A boy ran into me and made me fall really hard.
Aside from the fact that the place is consistently filthy (I mean, come on. How hard is it to pick up a rag once in a while!), the staff's #1 priority should be their patrons' safety. Guess what? Epic FAIL. The floor is always riddled with gum wads, wrappers, candy, etc. and I never see anyone checking the floor for such debris that cause skaters to fall and hurt themselves. Whenever I have told staff members there was dangerous liquid or debris on the floor, they do absolutely nothing. What bothers me most is that there are no skate guards on the floor. Weekend nights are busy with lots of teenagers darting out in front of skaters, others chasing each other on foot, some in the middle dirty dancing, some skating in the wrong direction...there was even a toddler and his father crawling in the middle of a packed rink floor last Friday night! I was shocked. There should be someone, at the very least, sitting at the DJ booth watching the floor, ready to announce over the mic when people are doing something on the floor that risks the safety of their patrons. Why is that too much to ask?
Way too crowded on the floor. This rink only has a short wall. A wall around the rink would help new skaters gain confidence and also keep them stay out of the way of the more experienced skaters. Great DJ!
If you're there to skate it's a great place. The party "rooms" are not really rooms so it is loud! The food is good and the people are easy to work with. It is old and has that look to it. Overall an enjoyable place.
Loud, a bit on the dark side and doesn't look like the decor has been updated lately....but who looks at the decor in a skating rink?
Went to Kate's Skates tonight for Friday night fun night. It has SERIOUSLY gone down hill. The skates are ripped took three pairs to find my daughter a "safe" pair we settled with a pair with out a toungue on one skate. My other daughter had mismatched inline skates from two separate sets. Warning they no longer spray disinfectant into the skates. Yuck they smell so bad and are so dirty. Their is wrappers and plastic pieces on the rink. A woman was pushing a baby carriage on the rink, 5 girls in shoes were dancing in the center very provocatively. Yet everyone else was told to stay off the rink in shoes. Go figure. Just not family friendly anymore, plus filthy, skates falling apart. Our pizza was raw and barely cooked. Bathroom beyond dirty, The staff is rude and could careless. Not a deal, it's flat out a waste of family time.
Fun place for families. Kate's Skate is close to Matthews, in Indian Trail. There are frequent specials and coupons there...regardless, it's not expensive, even at full-price. There is inexpensive hot food available (think in terms of hot dogs and fries), and drink machines. You will need to bring cash, however, since I believe they don't take checks or credit cards (although they do have an ATM on the inside.) It's not fancy (very reminiscent of places I skated as a kid in the 70s), but my kids always have fun here.
This Kates has different nights for different occasions. Friday is family night. You can get up to 5 people in for $25.00! Including skate rentals for all!!They also have adult night from 8pm to 12am on Sunday. If you prefer kids there you can pick your night! The Kates in Rock Hill has adult night on Thursday night from 8pm till 12am FYI . There is a great old school feel and awesome old school music that will make you want to dance! I love that they have kept it original from the 80's!! Great place to have some laughs!! Thank you Kates for still keeping it rolling!!
We enjoyed the day skating together. The DJ played a variety of music. The food and prices were average. Bathrooms were decent. Games however werent working but we went to skate not play games so didnt bother us. Floors and tables were clean. Overall had a great time. Will be returning.
Fell on gum on the floor, broke my radial head in arm. Told my lawyers that they had no insurance and said they have signs to skate at your own risk....not sign skate at your own risk with gum on the floor. Left with huge medical bills having no insurance and they would not help with that....Think before you send your kids.....
