In small groups we shared a large variety of wines served by a jovial gentleman who laughed and joked with us throughout. There is a small but nice gift shop as well.
I have been to Sanctuary several times in the past. As a result of lovely tastings, my daughter decided she wanted local wine for her May 2014 wedding in the Outer Banks. John Wright was very helpful and always warm and friendly. The wine was a great hit at the wedding - only 3 bottles left. They have a lovely gift shop. Also, during the summer, on Thursday evenings, they have wine and music! I went to the first of the season this year on a soft, lovely night. The guitarist was terrific. You could taste and purchase any wine. They had two wine slushies as well. Their "yard" is a perfect, relaxing place.
On my families recent trip to the Outer Banks we passed this vineyard on the way in and decided to come back and check it out. They do free tastings everyday and have quite a variety of wines to choose from. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I am a sweet wine drinker and their white wines were awesome as well as their wine called "The Plank".
The winery offers free tastings everyday. Most of the wines are either dry or very, very sweet. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines they sell. You can enjoy a bottle or glass on a seat in front of the tasting room or a picnic lunch on the grounds of the Cotton gin just down the street near the vines and cornfields. Traffic is very bad in season (158), I'd suggest stopping on the way home or if the traffic is really heavy. Its definitely the better option for a winery visit in the Outer Banks.
We love to eat/drink local so we stopped here to purchase some local wine while on vacation in Nags Head. The staff in the tasting room were very friendly, we tried many of their wines, which we enjoyed (and took plenty home!), there is also a nice gift shop, we will be visiting them on our next trip to the Outer Banks
Coming from Long Island where out east we have some award winning vineyards, I've come to expect a lower quality of wine than I'm used to when I travel. Sanctuary Vineyard is an exception. The wines, although mostly blends, are surprisingly good. The tasting room is large and well appointed and the servers are pleasant and informative. The prices are more than reasonable. When in the area, stop by for a free tasting. I'll bet you walk out with at least one bottle.
We have done wine tasting here a couple of times. The wines are excellent, and the tasting is a wonderful experience. Stop here on your way to the Outer Banks. You won't be disappointed!!
After 8 hrs on the road, it was refreshing to stop for a short time at a local winery. We got to taste all of their wines and the salesperson was very knowledgeable and friendly! I highly recommend this for people of legal age!
We attended a wedding here. What a perfect place for a wedding and reception. Private, intimate gathering place, perfect for any special occasion. The food was catered...a Southern Barbecue with all of the yummy trimmings! Wines from the vineyard were served. There was a dance floor set up with a DJ. The atmosphere was festive and the decorations perfect, a good time was had my all!
My partner and I try to visit a winery or two everywhere we go, so we were very excited to see there was a winery so close to the Outer Banks. We drove by it on the way to Kitty Hawk from Norfolk and stopped. The winery has 13 wines to choose from, and they will let you taste each one for free. We were also in luck the day we stopped because they had just uncorked their new blueberry and blackberry dessert wines a few hours before we arrived. The winery is small and grows most of its grapes on site, and you can see the vineyards driving along the highway. There are several dry wines to try, which my partner and his mother loved, and there are a few sweet wines too, so everyone will be happy. The sweet wines are of the muscadine variety, which I love, so I was very excited to see them on the tasting menu.We left for the Outer Banks with a bottle of the Wright Brothers Reserve, Life's a Peach, Wild Pony White, and Wildflowers (which came with a set of watercolors to paint the label after you finished drinking). This winery is a great stop on the way to the Outer Banks to taste wine and take a bottle or case with you.
