Kapaleeshwar Temple is a grand absolutely gorgeous old, old temple in the heart of Chennai. It is amazing that a place so venerably old could exist with such a modern city bustling around it.The carvings are faded with age, but you can still see the intricacies. It's solid stone like all old Indian temples. The evening Aarti which i attended was pleasing. Sat and meditated for a bit and it felt really good. Another really nice thing about this temple is that it's really clean. The environment manages to be very serene and vibrant at the same time.Go for marvelling the ancient temple art and the serene atmosphere.Don't forget to eat at Saravana Bhavan just outside the temple. The simple south Indian food you get to eat there is out of this world!
Besides parking being a night mare. It was a great experience.. They can maintain it more cleanly. They should regularly clean the oil lamp lighting areas and they should keep more dust bins inside the temple. The sevas and pujas are done well. A must if you a tourist in Chennai.
especially on ekadashi or poornima. You can witness a proprer worship with indian crowd. It is also good to just seat there and "meditate", just soak the vibe. It is one of the places in Madras that you have to see.

Its a beautiful old temple in the heart of Chennai. Mostly built with black stone, the visit provides a solace. Usually the place is crowded & there could be huge rush over weekend / festivals. Parking is a major challenge.
