Interesting shops, restaurants, and small bric a brac shops selling all sorts of 'antique' items. Jam packed for most of the day on a Ching Ming weekend. Try to go off peak, though I understand that there is shortly to be a high speed rail station in Pingyao, which will increase the number of tourists dramatically. I went out early morning, but it was still busy.
明清街算的上是平遥古城内最繁华的的街道了!早上九点多还赶上了游行演出,不错,抛绣球,只可惜我是个女生,要不然的话我也去抢绣球 了!晚上的夜景也很美的哦!
Old buildings, cobbled roads, lots of red lanterns. Picturesque, especially at dawn till 800am before all the tour groups have gotten there and the shops have opened up. After this, tons of tourists and lots of shops with different stuff to buy. Still interesting but not so picturesque or tranquil as the early morning.
