This is the place to go for the best wines in the State of CA! Better than Napa and Paso Robles. Dave and Rich are master wine makers and the wines are Primo!!!
I decided to be a tourist in my own backyard and try out this wine tasting room before heading down to the beach to soak up some rays. For $10 you get to taste from six different bottles. I tried the white varieties and the ciders. The Savignon Blanc was like sour water. I also tried a couple others in the white wine category, but was so unimpressed, I can't remember the blends. The ciders were a little better and probably worth your while if you like sweet sparklings (it wasn't for me). The only thing this winery has going for it is the high profile location and catchy names on the labels. They get an "A" in marketing.
Stopped in for a wine tasting on our trip. The staff was very friendly and helpful in recommending local places. The reds were quite good and we took home a bottle of a Spanish red for the holidays. Very popular that night and it was clear why.
We stopped in here with a person who is a member of their club, so we got free tastings (that was a nice bonus). They were serving a nice variety - starting with a sparkler (delicious!), and then on to white wines, and some excellent reds.Definitely worth a stop if you're a wine lover.
This is simply a small tasting room in downtown Carlsbad. Nothing special in ambiance or wine!San Diego does have some beautiful wineries--but they are in Temecula, an hour away from Carlsbad. You would be better off walking toward the center of town and stopping at any one of the local restaurants and having a nice glass of wine!
Sadly, I am writing my first negative review. We were visiting Southern California for a special occasion and only for a few days. Overall, the trip was amazingly perfect. The only dark spot was our visit to Witch Creek Winery. I work in the wine industry in the Pacific Northwest. I LOVE wine of all kinds so it was high on my list to visit a winery or at least a tasting room on our special getaway. When we first walked in, the tasting room 'hosts' were dancing and enjoying themselves behind the bar. We were not greeted or acknowledged. Okay, no big deal. We found an empty spot at the bar to be served our tasting at. After waiting for a period of time without being acknowledged we were approached by an elderly man behind the bar and asked to move to the end of the bar to make room for a couple that had just walked in. Okay, a little rude but okay. We waited for an extended period (10 minutes to be acknowledged and offered glasses and a tasting sheet). Meanwhile, the couple that we had moved for were almost through with their tasting. At this point we wanted to leave but we had made a special trip to visit this tasting room so gave them the benefit of the doubt. I have 30+ years in hospitality and understand that sometimes things go wrong. Finally, a young woman approaches us and offers us glasses. She tells us the tasting fee is $10 for six wines. She was very hardworking and professional so I paid my fee and waited. An elderly woman walked up to us, looked and walked away. Rude. We wanted to leave at this point but I wanted to try their wine, too. So we waited. The young woman ends up taking care of us though she is extremely busy doing her job and carrying the burden of the work of her old, rude and neglectful coworkers. The wine lacked any redeeming quality. The lack of character and complexity was unsuccessfully trying to be masked by charred oak. It's funny, the wine mimics the service. The rude treatment continued. If any ONE thing had been a pleasant experience, I wouldn't be writing this review. If the wine quality had been good it could have compensated for the rude treatment. Conversely, if the service had been good, it would have compensated for the poor quality wine. I REALLY wanted to make a wine purchase but this is the first time I never have when visiting a tasting room. The service was deplorable. Witch Creek Winery only cares about making money. I won't give them mine and would strongly discourage anyone from visiting them. You can find much better wine at a local gas station and enjoy it in a better environment.
Came in with my father and husband, paid $7 for 5 tastings. It says winery but this is only a tasting room, a small one at that. The wine was a huge let down, didn't like any of them. Some were just like syrup. The staff was not very informative of their products and didn't really talk to us. They seemed like they were in more of a hurry to get people out and make money. I don't recommend this to anyone.
this place is down to earth and affordable and yummy wines. Everyone laughs and it is a great experience
Witch Creek Winery has been in business in Carlsbad for years now. We always enjoy a stop for tasting when in the area. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Try their sweet wines. I took home two bottles to have with a cheese platter for a happy hour soon!
We had the woman who didn't know a lot about the wines. I kept listening to the younger woman as she seemed to know more about the wines and how long they lasted. Our wines were young and bought a few to put into my cellar and enjoy in a few years.
