Today, Saturday, my buddy and I took a quick stop at the Island Brewery. Man, the IPA is out of this world. And, there was a guest keg from New Zealand (if I remember correctly) and it was fantastic as well. If you are in Carp for any reason, I highly recommend a stop in the tasting room. Also, I really enjoyed the banter with the two bartenders. They were knowledgeable and friendly, a super combo if you ask me.
Small, cozy, beer pub, down that the railroad tracks in Carpenteria..There are tables outside, and you can wait for the train, which is CLOSE, feet, to the tables. What fun there. The beers were fun to taste, with lots of fun, different tastes to choose. Had an avocado beer, wow, and they give you tastes of all. Come in and refill your "growler" glass beer holder.Would go back again.
This place was recommended to us by some locals near the beach and it was a pleasant find. The bar was always busy and has a great atmosphere, relaxing and laid back. They serve a great selection of beers including a taster tray with a selection of different beers in small glasses which is a great idea.Every now and again you see and hear a train thunder past on the tracks outside which all adds to the experience. The have free wifi too which is a bonus.
I have heard about this place for a while. The scene was hopping and a lot of fun. The beer, was very tasty. My only complaint is that they don't serve food, especially since they are a brewery and I love brewery food. Fun place to go with friends.
What a fun experience. Even had a chance to meet some visitors from England. People seem to know they can bring in their own snacks and have an excellent variety of award winning beers brewed on the premises
Many of our local trips to Carpenteria have been to local hiking trails in and around this town.We decided to change up and have lunch and a beer. We entered off of Linden there is a sign that reads Fresh Beer! With out two dogs in tow we saw the water dish outside and parked the pooches outside. The Spot is accross the street. My wife loves the Fish and Chips and I the Chicken burrito. We had a delicious Porter andEnjoyed the the outdoor seating. Bring in your favorite eats and enjoy the great brews. Throw in the great knowledgeable staff and this is a great place!
Here is a little tip for first timers or out of town visitors. Park where you think you should park and then head toward the train tracks. You won't actually see the brewery until you are actually right up on it. The best thing about Island Brewing is the location. Great ocean view not far from the beach. Medium size tasting room with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outside was packed but that is expected on a nice summer day. Inside was pretty busy too but we were able to get a seat at the bar. The beers were all alright, nothing bad but nothing amazing that made me say wow either. I really wish the avocado beer was more avocadoy. Service was ok. The guys was nice but did't really offer any information about the beer.
Island has a variety of beers that should appeal to just about any particular taste. I prefer a one of the hoppier beers, so I'm quick to jump on the IPA. I'm also liking of the Night Sail lately. The large assortment of beers will certainly keep you busy tasting until you find one that i to your liking. The staff is helpful, friendly and efficient, generally keeping you waiting as little as humanly possible. It can be busy on certain nights of the week. I've only been on Thursday evenings which are quite manageable. I'd highly recommend talking to the brewers who are often around. Great guys who don't mind talking about the craft. Have fun!
This very simple brewery is a must to visit, but be sure to go to the bar at anytime! The staff are amazing, friendly and upbeat at all times. The owners make a point of talking to you too.The beer is top notch, all we tried we enjoyed! If you want to stay for lunch, then bring or order in your own and just buy a ber to go with it!Patio a must to watch the trains go buy and is dog friendly too.
...it is a fun place filled with friendly locals (many with canine friends)...with great beer. In fact while I was in town, it was announced that several beers had just won first place in a major beer judging conference....highly recommended..,and if you love trains as I do...the Amtrak tracks are just feet fromf the entrance and patio.
