Highly recommended by many friends who had ridden this road before, we decided it was definitely on our to-do list. There was quite a bit of traffic, being a holiday weekend, but we were able to enjoy many of the hair-pin turns this road is notorious for. If you're riding in the area.....DO IT!
This was totally terrific and took lots of pictures from different angles. There is a small pull off to stop. We were there during the Sturgis Bike rally so it was really crowded.
We spent several hours driving the Needles Highway, taking lots of photographs along the way and at Needles Eye. Nature is wonderful. Thank you, God, for such beauty.
This is actually more of a review of the Needles Highway. We missed the needle's eye as there was no sign from the direction from which we came. Passed the turnout where there were a few cars and figured after we went by that was probably it. The views on the rest of the road were great so it was a nice ride. A little white knuckle on the driving side so not for the faint of heart.
This was a great drive. Unfortunately, the kids were asleep after a long day, so they missed most of it. The rock formations were fantastic... just so unique and unlike anything we have seen before. It is amazing to think that these rocks were the initial inspiration for Mt. Rushmore. I can't even imagine the founding fathers being carved into these formations. Amazing.
If you are visiting Mt. Rushmore, drive the Needles Hwy loop. Lots of towering rock formations, tunnels thru rocks, breath taking views.
Great granite rock formations!! The road to the Needle narrows down to one lane big enough for a pick up truck fit through. Took many photo's of the "Eye of the Needle". The Black Hills offers many sights to see. Such as Crazy Horse Mnt. ,Spear Fish Canyon.
This is a must see!! It actually looks like the eye of a needle. Beautiful drive but kinda of narrow in places. Very beautiful scenery
This is not to be missed. Great views on this scenic road. The road is very fun to drive. There is so much to look at its hard to drive!
The road is filled with curves and hills and something to see around every bend. Make sure to stop and see the chipmonks at the turnout just past the needle!
