Me and my wife visited two islands in Lakshadweep as part of Coral Reef package from Sports. We visited Kavaratti on 6th Dec 2013 and it was an excellent experience. Here was the itenary that we followed during the island visit.1. We were on the ship named "Lakshadweep Sea"2. Between 7 to 7.30 AM we had our breakfast on the ship3. Started disembarkation process @ 7.30 AM, since the big ship cannot go near the island's jetty (less water and might destroy coral life) we have to get into a small boats from the high sea to the shores.4. Reached at the resort by walk was very near (5 min) from the jetty at around 8 AM5. Settled on the beach resort, changed the clothes, etc and had welcome drink "Coconut Water"6. Did Glass Boat tour where we saw lots of different Coral's and fishes it was a very good experience (was included in the package so no spending money for this activity)7. Did little bit of kayaking (included in the package)8. We were asked if we are interested to do Scuba Diving for Rs 2000 which included photos and 1 min video shot in a CD (They used Go Pro cameras and i do know they are pretty good)9. We were given instructions and we did scuba diving with professional divers, water was about 9-10 feet and i dont know swimming (anyone can do this, you need to just breath from mouth and see the awesome marine life. Rest of the things will be taken care)10. Had lunch in the island (Fried Tuna was awesome), this was also part of the package.11. Relaxed on the beach for 1-2 hours, my wife did Speed boat (cost Rs 500)12. We were then taken around the island on a small school bus to show different places in the island13. First we went to the Aquarium, was good14. Then we went to a planetarium (yes there is one in a small island and it has digital screen projector which is the only one in India), they showed a movie for 30 min and the exhibits inside.15. We were then taken to a distillation facility where the sea water is converted to drinking water (about 1 lac litters are consumed by the island every day), this place was very interesting for me and i liked it very much16. We then saw a light house and then back to the Resort17. We had our evening tea and biscuits and collected our Scuba Diving CD's18. We then left for the jetty by walk and boarded the small boat to the big shipThe arrangements made by SPORTS was excellent and the people there are really helpful. This is a must place to go and do it with SPORTS which is an official tourism semi govt organization in Lakshadweep.
This is a beautiful island in Lakshadweep. The beaches are pristine. Lots of water sports, snorkeling etc. Scuba diving can be done for Rs 2000 even for novices. Use suntan waterproof lotions extensively and keep drinking water.Kids must be monitored and taken to shade periodically to avoid skin burn or rashes. Use headgear, goggles and ladies may wear clothes with sleeves to protect from sun.Lot of trash and plastic around so do your bit by not spreading more and stop those doing it.Only BSNL mobiles work on the islands. The ships serve basic food so carry any extra eatables that you prefer. All package tours are very poorly organised by Lakshadweep authorities but in the absence of choice its ok. Good to travel in group or company as there is no TV etc but its a good time to bond with family or friends. The islands are well connected by ships to Cochin.
We visited Kavaratti during Feb 2015.1. Lagoon is extremely beautiful.2. Sea life is best in Lakshadweep, even better than agatti.3. PADI dive center is located and well maintained.4. Accommodation on the beach and nearby is available.5. Circuit House is very far from the lagoon and it's bathrooms are dirty.6. Food quality over the island is bearable.7. People are very gentle, helpful and trustworthy.8. No bar/ shops/ party at beaches. This is a place to experience mother nature. 9. It is the most populated island, yet the beaches are very clean.10. All personal items of necessity such as toiletries, footwear, clothes etc are easily available.11. Plenty of ATM'sI would highly recommend this place over Agatti if Diving is going to be your main activity. Moreover the water quality in the taps at Kavaratti was way better than in Agatti. The tap water stank at Agatti.
Best coral island and advance scuba diving school. fresh Lagoon and tuna Fish. Desiccated coconut sweet dishes. Nice muslim friendly polution. really feel heaven in india. Ocean sea beach lover must visit this place in life ever. nice phography. varieties of water sport feels like rejuvenated life or may be rebirth.floating cottage bath. watch out urja mosque, mesume, administrator ban glow. cricket team is well established. player will certainly IPL match in one day.
We went to Kavaratti as a part of the Lakshadweep Tourism Samudram package cruise. We had a great time with scuba diving, jet skiing and snorkeling at Kavaratti. There were a couple of other attractions like an aquarium on the island but nothing beats the sea. We spent the entire day on the beach and it was totally worth it. Make sure you travel only during the winter though as the summer would be scorching. We got sun burnt in December!
We recently visited Lakshadweep Islands and stayed at Kavaratti. Reviewing a gem is such a difficult task. How can one describe a Pearl. That's the beauty of the place. Had never seen such blue lagoons and clear seas. Excellent corals at a depth of one to three meters. Absolutely white sands and a blissful couple of days is all that is required to enjoy the water sports in perfect setting. Now the flip side of the place. It is extremely difficult to manage a trip to Lakshadweep. Getting a permit is through an agent or SPORTS, the Lakshadweep Administrations tourist department. The cost of stay and travel is exhorbitant. Once done with admiring the seas, there is nothing else to do. One is totally dependant on The Paradise Resort for food and it is the same staple each day- Rice, Chapati, Dal Fish Curry, one veg and salad. Alcohol is strictly prohibited. A word about the travel. Kavaratti is connected to Agati by Helicopter of Pawan Hans. Again the cost is Rs 7000 per head or you sail in a boat which can be quite a daunting experience for those not used to travel by fishing boats. Hopefully administration will have fast boats by mid Nov. And yes one had to keep the adverse flight conditions in mind. Only one ATR flight to Agatti. God help you if flight gets cancelled. You are on your own without help and food. That was in brief our trip to paradise.
The best place for scuba diving ,the scuba diving is an assisted programme, and the helpers/assistants are very gentle and teach you to go in the 10 feet water depth, very easily, swimming is not a necessary skill.I would like to take the name of Mr. Taha, the instructer ,who was very helpful. Also a must is snorekelling and vast open lagoon for swimming and kayaking.
Excellent diving spot, relaxed atmosphere, friendly local population. Specially commendable is the SPORTS run water sports and PADI diving center with top notch facilities, great coaches/ masters and very affordable rates. Lagoon water clearer than half the swimming pools around :)Not a touristy place so pls avoid if looking for shopping/ crowds/ nightlife etc. This is vacationing at its relaxed best.
I visited the famous Mosque, water desilting plant,LightHouse Tower,Siva Temole and the park.Very nice place with calm atmosphere.I visited to DeepSea watchby FibreBoat. Local food Iliked much.
Another beautiful island from lakhadweep, This is the capital and has maximum visitors. Do visit the marine aquarium.
