I know there are few ways to see Na Pali coast- from the air and from the Ocean, and also you can hike the trails. We are not hikers, so we picked Capt.Andy`s Na Pali Sunset Dinner Sail. We had wonderful time. so, whatever method you will choose- it is up to you, but if you are in Kaua`i - you have to see it
This was our last island on the NCL cruise & IMO the prettiest. We traveled along the coastline from the tour bus & had many opportunities to view the beauty. So many areas just beckoned for you to come & enjoy the beauty. Would love to return someday & spend a few days here instead of just a few hours.
Between the Napali coast and Waimee Canyon, no wonder Kauai is called the Garden Island. We flew over the coast with Island Air. The flight was the highlight of our holidays. Absolutely gorgeous.
My wife and I hiked the trail to Hanakapiai Beach. The sites along the way are absolutely stunning. However the trail can be difficult at times especially to those not use to this type of exercise. I was amazed at the people on the trail with flip flops on and young children. The trail is steep and very wet at times. Before the beach the river crossing was up to my waist and the beach was not exposed. We did our hike at the beginning of March. If you are prepared with the right footwear, water and are in reasonable shape, it's a great experience with once in a life time photo opportunities.
I selected this tour group after reviewing many other tour groups on Trip Advisor. My reason for picking this tour company was the boat (steadier and more comfortable than a raft boat from what I could tell). While we had good weather, the swells were significant IMO. I did take a dramamine to be on the safe side. I was happy to be on the Na Pali Kai boat. As for the tour itself - the coast is beautiful, we saw plenty of whales and dolphins, and the guides were passionate about the natural resource that the Na Pali coast is. I ordered a tuna sandwich and the tuna came separate from the bread so the bread wouldn't get soggy. (That's thinking ahead). They were fastidious about picking up our trash so it didn't go in the ocean which I really appreciated - they respect the ocean in word and deed. I didn't try out the bathroom.Of note, at the meeting spot in the morning, the tour seemed to be organized by Liko Cruises. I'm not really sure what the relationship is between Liko and Makana but it all worked out fine. Also of note, because the morning trips weren't full, they combined the 8 and 8:30 group and called me the day before with the update and sent an email and responded to my follow up voicemail and email. This was much appreciated.I would recommend this tour and this tour company.
I walked a bit of trail in 1994 years ago, but it was closed at the Ke'e beach due to flooding. Went again in late October 2014 with 2 friends and hiked to the waterfall (2 miles each way). It was fabulous! Yes, the beach was lovely, though clearly dangerous to swim due to currents, and the waterfall was spectacular. The views were excellent, the flora and fauna was engaging. The very best part was the hairy, scary hike on the very slippery muddy trail, crossing numerous strong streams. It was exhausting and so wonderful to have done it even though I hate to get wet and not a fan of precarious footing situations. Felt great to have accomplished it!
This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We took a boat tour and later we hiked along the steep cliffs. No matter how you see it, just see it. It is well worth the effort. Helicopter rides are another good option.
