Well known as the background of a scene in "Jumanji," this wide main street is an American classic. Low-rise buildings housing restaurants, stores, businesses bracket the street and central boulevard. Ginko and other trees and plantings abound. As other reviewers have stated, many events are held here including the famous Guinness Book of World Records Pumpkin Festival. This college town has much to offer and is the heart of the Monadnock Region.
One of the most charming squares I have seen. Many New England towns have squares but this one was full of charm and life. Than Band stand was in use and it just gave the town a welcoming atmosphere.
Keene is a really nice town.My only issues with Keene are the Brownshirt activist who really make it hard on the rest of us and interfere with our enjoyment of simply walking down Main st or go to Central Square. The parking meters and activist tend to keep us out of city center. If not for the overreach of the police and the rude and obnoxious behavior of the activist we would even want to live in Keene!Keene offers many things that towns of similar size do not have to offer. The restaurants, bars, theater and nice little stores along Maine street are fantastic! Most of the time one will not see the police or the activist since they seem to work together so to speak. One will not be out unles the other is out.My wife and I like to stroll Main st and sit in Central Squre just as a way to relax and people watch even if we are not shopping or eating out. Window shopping is a nice relaxing thing to do on Maine st as well.I want to give five stars but due to the activist and police I can only give 3 or 4 stars.
... for a bite to eat, shopping, browsing, personal services, easy to walk, biker friendly, would make a great tasting tour.
Pretty location with many nice local stores & restaurants to visit as you walk around the square. Enjoy, NHy the great Main St. of Keen
The Central Square is an area filled with unique shops and good restaurants. There is a gazebo in the middle as well as a lovely old church. It is perfect for strolling and window shopping. There is a great New England feeling here.
I have lived in Keene, NH for the past two or three years. Keene is a great place to visit and Main Street/Central Square is the perfect place to start! Grab lunch at any of the wonderful restaurants, drink a beer at one of the bars, and shop around to find unique New England goods. Shopping around town really helps the local economy since there are so many "mom and pop" type shops. Overall, Keene is the epitome of a small New England town!
I've lived in Keene forvthe past 3 years. Main street and central square is a great place to shop and walk around! There are many restaurants, coffee shops and bars one can visit in downtown Keene.
Great town to walk around! Many small shops and restaurants. At night it was quiet and romantic.....It was beautifully decorated for Christmas.
I go to Keene frequently and certainly enjoy the look and feel of the downtown area. Parking meters are a bit of an inconvenience as we aren't too used to them in NH. Great shops, coffee and food.
