This has tons of history and info on the history of aviation and you can also enjoy a delish breakfast or lunch in the hanger of a actual plane!! A full service diner. Wonderful place to spend a few hours.
The museum may be small but it's growing - and what's there right now is fascinating! Liberty has airplane models, artifacts and documents from both World War II and from Island Aviation Airline - the smallest airline in the world - it ran between the Lake Erie Islands for over 20 years. Watch the video and read some of the history of this amazing airline and how it brought life to the islands. Browse through the hanger to see a World War II bomber, jeeps, a halftrack personnel carrier, an ambulance and more. The museum is also known for owning a Ford Tri-Motor that they give rides on and it's in the process of rebuilding another. A PT Boat will soon be added to the collection along with other World War II vehicles. Just one tidbit to whet your appetite - did you know that school children carved 800,000 models of enemy airplanes and donated them to the military so American pilots could use them to help them "spot" enemy aircraft? That's just one of the fascinating facts you'll learn at Liberty. Don't forget to stop it at the Tin Goose Diner for breakfast, lunch or dinner - the food is outstanding and all profits go to the museum.
Nice museum right off 2 ,east access. they have a beautiful B25 they fly and are restoring a Ford Trimotor, they have a second Trimotor they are flying and is currently on loan to EAA.They also have a T6 Harvard which is in flyable condition. 5 bucks gets you in. In addition to the aircraft they have some other military pieces , flack guns, German transport , American halftrack and jeep. The attached ,restored Diner( Tin Goose Diner) is worth a lunch stop, good eats.Try it you'll like it.
Make sure to eat at the diner inside the facility. Great breakfasts! The museum has some high quality restored vintage aircraft and military equipment.
Liberty Aviation Museum is well put together with interesting displays and artifacts about the history of Ford Tri-Motors. They also have a beautifully restored 1928 Ford Tri-Motor, T-6 Harvard, TBM Avenger, and B-25 Mitchell on display along with various other WWII artifacts. You can even catch a ride on their 1928 Ford Tri-Motor! Call them to see when it will be flying. Liberty Aviation Museum also hosts fun aviation events throughout the year that bring in other aircraft and make aviation come alive. Make sure to visit their website periodically to learn about their upcoming events. They also have a very nice gift shop. The "Tin Goose Diner" is located within the same building as Liberty Aviation. It has a 1950's theme and great tasting food and friendly service. Family friendly and affordable. From time to time during the summer, Yankee Air Museum's B-17 "Yankee Lady" and their B-25 "Yankee Warrior" give rides at Liberty Aviation Museum. It is a lot of fun! I highly recommend visiting Liberty Aviation Museum regularly to catch their different events!
Was surprised to find the B-25 in the Hanger this weekend, thought she had gone to Oshkosh. They have added a flying Ford Tri-Motor in addition to the one being reconstructed. Nice quiet setting and nobody crowding you out while you are trying to take in the memorabilia. Must see for Aviation History Buffs!
A great little museum with a lot of local history. Should only take 1/2 hour of so to visit. Children and adults will like seeing the older planes.
For what they have, it is nice. Probably wouldn't go back every time, but rather just once every few years to see if there was anything new.
Interesting local history plus more! The planes that were being restored were amazing. The gentleman that was available to answer questions was knowledgeable and added a bit of first hand stories.
A perfect place to stop. History buffs like it and even my teenage grandson enjoy visiting. It was his favorite stop on our trip.
