For ages 5 and up I think it is great. I went with a 3 year old and there just wasn't enough to really enjoy. The idea here is to learn and I think a little older would have allowed her to read and really learn what is trying to be taught. I felt it was a little pricey for adults to get in ($9 I think). I did enjoy the Fort Collins History section being that I am a Fort Collins native. Overall, good place to go for a couple of hours with the right aged kids.
The museum has been completely updated and is now on a par with exhibits of this sort any where in the country. Great history of Fort Collins, including locally developed innovations and great interactive displays. Kids love it, and when I was there for a community event, the place was abuzz with their lively energy. Don't miss this local treasure. Great place to visit with guests, especially if there are children to entertain. They will be busy, and you can explore or enjoy the chance to converse, relax, or whatever your adult psyche might need or desire for this moment.
If you are in the Fort Collins area with kids, make sure to visit this amazing museum! Colorado is lucky to have this asset. From the musical exhibits to a dome show, its a great time for grown ups as well as the little people! If you are a local, make sure to check out their camps, classes and parents night out special events as well.
While the old Fort Collins Museum at the Carnegie Library building was nice, the new Museum of Discovery is much, much more. Despite numerous static attractions, kids will not have a problem revisiting some popular ones during their visit. Those which make sounds and music are the most popular as well as the wind machine. With Fort Collins celebrating it's 150 anniversary, a visit to the museum is even better with the extensive display of city history.
This museum just opened a couple of years ago, combining the old Fort Collins History with the Discovery Science Center. The result is nothing short of amazing. Every corner you turn gives you something fun and intriguing to explore. My kids seem to find something new to play with each time they go. They recently added a live animal section, with a bunch of interesting creatures from scorpions to rats to a boa constrictor. And that's in addition to two black-footed ferrets in the lobby, which I was told are the only BFFs on public display in the world. This museum is right up there with some of the best science and cultural museums I've ever visited. It's right on the river, at the edge of Old Town, walking distance if you want, but also free parking, although the day I went it was pretty full. I'll definitely be back.
This was a good museum for younger people. Not a lot of exhibits but the ones there are very engaging. I traveled with 20 somethings who spent hours on all the musical equipment. If you dont get involved, the place wont seem very fun and you'll be done after 15 minutes.
I was really impressed by the attention to detail of the exhibits, many give a great history of the area and its animal inhabitants in a way interesting to children as well as adults. My grandkids especially love the area devoted to the science behind music and all the interactive exhibits. If you get a chance to visit the rooftop for an event you'll enjoy one of the best views of downtown Fort Collins.
I wanted to check out the Museum of Discovery since we had never been there. I was anticipating that it would be interesting, but my husband and I were very favorably impressed with this museum that provides many interactive experiences for visitors. Not only is the building beautiful architecturally, the exhibits inside are artfully arranged. We enjoyed playing with the various music instruments, the tornado chamber, lifting the piano, and creating our own colors. This is a great place for kids of all ages! Fort Collins history and our 150th anniversary are the focus of a special exhibit; what a fascinating glimpse into our own town's history. The museum staff has done a wonderful job with all of the varied exhibits; there is something that will appeal to everyone. You can also take in a show in the dome theatre, and the rooftop observation deck affords lovely views of downtown and the foothills. We expected to spend about an hour here, but were pleasantly surprised to spend much more time than that. We definitely recommend stopping into the museum - it's not just for out of town visitors and guests. This is an artistic/cultural/historic amenity that Fort Collins can really be proud of.
As good as any museum in Denver Could spend a hour or all day at the museum Spacious hands on and first class
I took my 6 year old grandson to the Discovery Museum for his birthday gift (I give him experiences instead of toys) and we had the best time ever! He was so involved, occupied and entertained. It was a blast!
