One of the most unusual and impressive Gothic cathedrals, not so much inside than rather outside: The roof, the Gothic artwork, the fragile looking but massive buttresses and certainly the location.
Stained glass is out of this world. Do buy a ticket to walk around the whole of the cathedral otherwise you will miss some of its beauty.
Remarkable cathedral, can't take my eyes of it, nice place to stop after a walk in the town! Nice restaurant nearby with impressing sightseeing.
very reasonable $ to enter and very accessible once inside. The view from the outside patio over looking the city is worth the visit.
Worth visiting if in area. Simply, very interesting and beautiful. Beautiful views of the countryside as you walk up to the church from the town.
I first saw pictures of the cathedral of St Barbara back in the 1970s when I was a student on the other side of the globe and I always wanted to visit. So, on my first visit to the Czech Republic, no matter how much there was to see in Prague, I insisted on a day in Kutná Hora. I was not disappointed: the incredible triple tent roof, the impressive height of the vaulting, the flying buttresses, the wall paintings all delighted me.
This Cathedral seems way too large for small Kutna Hora. Building began in the 14th C when the town rose in prominence due to the silver mining industry. The King established the Royal Mint in the town and it soon became one of the wealthiest towns in Europe. If you look at the walls and windows in the church you will see references to the mining industry everywhere. Ancient frescos show coins being made and silver hammered out. The unique triple spire of the church appears in one of the stained glass windows. It costs 4Kc entry and it is open 9-6pm. There is no photography allowed. The Cathedral is located down a narrow cobbled street and it is nearly impossible to stand back from the front and get a decent photo of the outside. Kutna Hora makes a great day trip from Prague - there are a lot of other attractions in the small town.
Saint Barbara's Church is a beautiful Gothic building with a remarkable history. Not only has the Cathedral undergone a long construction but it also has become an integral part of the town of Kutná Hora. St Barbara is the patron saint of miners who form a major part of the town, that’s why the Cathedral is a holy place for them, a place of prayers and appeals. The church has been restored; few medieval frescoes have been preserved. Yet the altar and choir stalls as well as the organ are well worth seeing.
lovely building,it has been completely restores on the outsdie in recent years and the whole area very nice now,i didn't go inside on this vist as i was limited for time but it still is a lovely landmark
