One of two surviving gates of the old city, this site almost has potential. An explanatory panel would help make this attraction more meaningful. If you are near the Central Station and have a moment, take a picture. The day I was there, a publicity film was photographed, as may be seen. If you like old cannons, take a picture of it. The top of the gate has inscribed the year 1669.
One of the two city gateds of Leiden that are still standing. It is a pity that they build a very big parking garage just behind it. nicew neighbourhood though with Molen De Put right next to it on the river Rhine and the ethnological Museum on the other side
as you can see from the pictures...pretty entrance to the south side of the centrum...right after passing through you have a plethora of eateries straight ahead(some of which i've reviewed here) AND, if you make a right turn and go over the bridge, there's a windmill there that you can see up close...and a bit further on is a statue(very cool piece of work. i don't want to describe it and spoil the surprise, though) dedicated to rembrandt near one of the houses he supposedly lived in.
Well, tripadvisor wants me to say a lot about this or I cannot submit my review. But really, what more can you say about a building such as this?
This place is what you can't miss in Leiden. It looks amazing in sunny day, the same it does in the night with all lights :). Nice place not far from Central Station and center of the town.
I think this gate if part of most self guided walks through Leiden. It's worth coming here, nice picture spot, but that's it :)If you want to take a break try Café De La Soul right at the corner, great place!
I didn’t know about this delicate city gate and stumbled upon it while walking towards the Put mill from the Leiden railway station. It looks wonderful and is also a good starting point to discover Leiden.
