There is not, frankly, a whole lot to do on Lanai, so we were delighted, on a rainy day, to visit this cultural centre. Gave a great overview of the islands agricultural history.
We had a wonderful time here--the staff took so much time to answer our questions and we really learned a lot about the history of the island. This is a must visit for folks who want to not just visit Lana'i but learn about the culture, history, and people of the island.
Visited Dec. 4th 9:00 amLocated on Lanai Ave right across the street from Dole Park. Admission is FREE...A very good informative and interactive experience detailing the history & the culture of the Island of Lanai...Obviously, Pineapple has played a big role for the Island, but other interesting facts and details enlightens your knowledge of Lanai.
We stopped in and learned a lot about the history of Lana'i. Very nice people running the place and took the time to explain the artifacts and photos.
When the island was a Dole Pineapple plantation, and before, this is how life was. Get a T-shirt to help support this small museum.Carved boats, and authentic artifacts, also lots and lots of photos of the life of the plantation workers, too.
There aren't a whole lot of places to go on Lanai. When we got to Lanai City, one of the shops recommended we stop in here. It was nice and a good place to learn the history of the island of Lanai.
We very much enjoyed our casual visit to the Lana'i Culture and Heritage Center! I never would have learned about the nuances of Hawaiian political history and more specifically about the history of Lana'i. The staff continued to answer our questions until a half hour after closing. I will be reading Queen Liliuokalani's autobiography at their enthusiastic recommendation!
The outside looked interesting. In the center of this lovely small town. We wished the cultural center would have been open, but certainly understood because of Christmas Eve.
The Lanai Culture and Heritage Center is in a small building and has pictures, artifacts, etc. of the history of Lanai. There is a person who will answer questions. This is a good stop to get a better picture of the history of Lanai.
We learned a lot about the history of this gorgeous place. They have lots of resources and maps for area drives and hikes. We loved it!
