This "opera house" is way more than that. We just saw a wonderful show, again, and had a great time. Every time we've been there, we've not been disappointed. We love to sit in the balcony to see better. The building shares space with the Lancaster municipality, but that has no affect at all on the uniqueness of the theater. We've never seen a second-rate show; it's always first rate!
We saw Nunsense and the show was amazing. The only issue is seeing from the back rows. With no elevation of the rows and not having the rows staggared it was very hard to see. Who would know that row 14 was second to the last row. The Opera House is very historic but I worried that if there was ever a fire there would be no way out. The stairs were very crowded as they did not open the doors until late and there was a little concern if we all needed to get out for any reason.
Love the Opera house! Great seating in the balcony. Difficult to see though on the main floor.
it's true that the occasional opera does make its way to this restored architectural masterpiece, but it also presents a wide variety of plays, musicales and concerts, with a fine, mostly volunteer staff and reasonable prices
We wait yearly for the opera's presented by the Nickel City Opera. We not only expect this opera, Don Pasquale, to be great, we know it will be. We had the opportunity to hear several of the singers at a recital and they were delightful. The opera its self is highly entertaining and it is a great one for first timers.
The Lancaster Opera House doubles as Lancaster Town Hall. I went to see Nunset Boulevard. It was an amazingly funny show. The theatre itself was small so most seats had a great view. We were in the balcony and there was a great view. Also, not that many people were sitting up there so we got to spread out
love to go and see the shows put on by local entertainers, very reasonably priced, a real gem in Lancaster!
this is the best "starting point" to expose children to theater. The Opera house is beautiful, and the staff work so hard. Productions are fun. And you can't beat the price.
Lovely ambiance for a play or concert. Historic building with great woodwork. I love the warm feeling of this place.
I always think of the Opera House whenever I think of Lancaster. It is Old Lancaster NY, not to be confused with all the newer plasticised subdivsions that have proliferated this once cozy little village. The Opera house is like turning back the pages of time. It offers great theatrical fair both local and imported and with it's rich wooden interior it is accoustically superior to many so called modern buildings. The stage is racked fro better visuals too. It is worth going there just to see the theatre regardsless of what is playing and here is the insider tip: The seats in the balcony are in many respects better than on the main level.
