My four year old daughter rode a pony 4 out of 5 mornings that we were in Lake George. The last day, she was asking to ride a horse a that is a little bigger after she was done riding the pony, which she was allowed to do! Thank you for being so accommodating and allowing my daughter to have such a great time! She's still talking about it!
We went to Saddle Up Stables unprepared for the ride. Even though the website said wear long pants we came in shorts. The guide was kind enough to let us run down to WalMart and purchase longer pants which are very much needed due to the brush. The trails were excellent. Highly recommend.
Thank you. We try our best to maintain our trails to provide everyone with the best trails for horseback riding.
I'm sorry this person feels our horses are overworked. You can look at all of our horses to see how well fed and fat they are. Several large commercial fans are blowing on the horses and there is plenty of shade for them. Being in the Adirondacks is far cooler than being down south or out west at 100+ degrees. Our shaded trail is actually quite cool and most days a sweatshirt is needed. We don't run our horses, so they are not tired, and actually are very fit and healthier than most horses. There are only a few weeks during the summer that we are busy. There are many days they don't even go around the trail. Mountain trails do have rocks, so yes sometimes they can trip. These horses have a wonderful home and life.
Thanks for the response. Our trails are constantly being worked on to make them the best trails in the area. We specialize in views of Lake George from our trails that other stables don't offer. The horses are trained to follow, because we have many people who have never experienced horseback riding and need a gentle horse to ride. I think you were here on a busy weekend, but we do try to cater to our customers riding ability the best we can. Hope you can ride with us again sometime.
We initially stopped by and just did the hand led pony ride, which our two year olds loved, and our older girls enjoyed riding a real horse for the first time (8 and 13). It was a little expensive at $15 for the older girls each and $10 for the little kids. I had been reluctant to do the hour long trail, especially after reading some reviews that said it was scary, steep and close to the cliff edge (all of which turned out to NOT be our experience at all) but the bigger girls kept asking if we could go back. The hour long scenic trail was so much better value than the pony rides for the big kids ($48 a person). They loved it and have not stopped talking about it. It was a gentle ride, with horses that were incredibly well trained and knew exactly what to do with three of us that had never ridden before. The trail through the woods was peaceful and very pretty, with a nice view of the lake at one point. My youngest was very nervous at first but soon overcame that and had no trouble with the parts of the trail that went up or down hill. Our guide was great. Very attentive and made sure we staid in our saddles correctly. My girls loved chatting with her and she was great with all their questions, even down to "Do horses cut the cheese?"The stars of the show though were of course our horses, Anna, Scooter and Chevy. Because none of us had ridden, they gave us very experienced horses. They knew the trail so well, and never lost their footing. When a deer ran across our path they didn't even startle. Overall, this was a unique experience and I would thoroughly recommend it.
So glad you had a great time riding our horses. Thanks for taking the time to let us and others know of your experience at Saddle Up. We really appreciate your kind words.
This is a friendly bunch! Great horses with an easy walking trail. Great view of the lake. There are lots of interesting fact signs to read along the way. Perfect family activity.
In reading the reviews a few of them said you were pricey. If they only knew the cost of the insurance they would think again...... There is also the cost of grooming the trails, food vet bills and the friendly staff. Look around and see what you have and are very fortunate to have at your beck and call. There are very few horseback riding places now due to insurance. The insurance is extremely expensive. So keep this in mind when you go riding again please!Lorraine grenier Saco Maine 04072
So happy you had a great time. Even though we do get many great experienced riders here, we still want to make sure we go over all safety and riding instructions with everyone. We try our best to have nice trails and good horses for our customers to ride. Hope you can come back again to ride at Saddle Up.
