I've been to this store a few times now and it's a destination. As you walk in the scent of their candle displays hits you and pulls you in. Once inside, you'll find room after room of beautifully decorated rooms sure to inspire you. It's a little trip to yesteryear, right in the middle of town, among the antique shops, close to a great restaurant and with plenty of parking. Well worth the drive. It smells yummy, it looks beautiful, and did I mention the Stonewall Kitchen dips and and candy counter? Oh, you will love this place!
Borwn and Hopkins is my favorite country store to shop in. It is like I have gone back in time. Very friendly service. (They always say hi to me and even remember my first name!) They have a wonderful old fashion candy counter section in the store. They have a huge selection of quality merchandise. Brown and Hopkins is more than a store. It is a friendly community within the store. The only negative thing I can say is, it is very hard to leave the store once you are there! Great job Liz and staff!
This store has 2 floors of interesting things...some old and some new. I usually only go in to buy their Belgian Chocolate fudge....which is delicious! I never looked around. Well, I sure am glad I stayed this time. I ended up buying some very nice gifts.
We can't drive through Chepachet without stopping in at Brown and Hopkins. Seasonally decorated and an enjoyable trip through the past to the present.
Thank you very much for the wonderful review!
Every Thursday evening in December all the shops in Putnam are lit up and the Town Crier leads people across the streets. When I enter Brown & Hopkins that is where the Christmas Spirit just comes alive for me...with the decorations, the wonderful array of gifts and of course the penny candy counter like in the olden days. This is certainly worth a trip and a wonderful holiday memory.
Wow, favorite in the world??? We are honored...thank you so much for your review!
Thank you for your review! We do have the honor of being in continuous operation since 1809 as a store (older than Macy's!!!) and we feel the three stars you provided does not reflect the hard work and constant maintenance of our wonderful store. We certainly hope you will reconsider. In the light of the present economy, with stores of our nature "dropping like flies", it is very important that we strive to make all of our customers happy and at least earn a minimum of 4 stars.Yes, it's true, we are no longer a "general store", which in todays terms would be an old building in Vermont selling sliced meats, pickles, cheese and such, but we do still have an old fashioned candy counter with some items still just a penny, many local gourmet specialties, and most importantly, customer service with a smile!! We appreciate each sale, no matter how small, and can never understand when people walk out without buying a thing. Every sale to a local establishment can make it or break it. Thank you to everyone who helps us continue the fight against BIG BOXES!!!Have a wonderful day!
This is a few fun place to shop. It is pricy, but if you have a counrty home, you will love this shop. My daughter loves going in just for the "penny" candy.
Thanks for your great review, and we love it that you don't mind visiting us too!!! :)
