Just did the two day Upper and Lower Gauley Overnighter with Class VI at On The Gorge - Great Experience, Great Guides, Outstanding Food at Camp. The Gauley River offers spectacular rafting and views. Camp had hot showers and a hot tub that both hit the spot after a hard day paddling. Lunch both days was good, not great but the snacks, dinner and breakfast at camp came straight from a 5 star chef! Start the overnighter on Friday or Sunday to avoid the busy rafting day on the Upper Gauley Saturday.
I recently did an overnighter on the Gauley, and nothing could have been any better... Ethan, my guide was first class. I felt very safe with Ethan. Then the star of the show the Gauley river was 1st class as well. Then there was MB our chef on the overnighter. MB was incredible and eager to please us with her unbelievable cooking skills... I have been on an overnighter with Ace raft, but I was never this happy as I am with Adventures on the Gorge... Anyone who has rafted.try coming over to Adventures on the Gorge for a truly great time..
We rafted the Lower Gauley and though it was cold, the scenery was amazing. Our trip leader Amanda was so witty and made everything more fun. Our guide Chuck was very knowledgeable and no one fell out of the raft!
We had a great time rafting on this river. Our instructor was great, and even had dinner with us later that night. I definitely conquered my fear of white water that day. I probably wouldn't do it again, but I'm very glad I had the experience. Great time, with a lot of fun.
My two sons & I had an absolutely perfect time rafting on the Upper Gauley River. This was the first time our schedules allowed us to raft this river together. The Class VI staff is one of the premier river outfitters in the world. Their attention to detail begins with what to expect on your outing, what to wear, & continues in the raft, as your guide ( we had Patrick Morgan) leads the crew through class 3-4-5 whitewater challenges. Safety throughout & a memorable experience for everyone is part of their mission statement-& it shows from beginning to end. Did I mention we were all well fed? Meals on the river with Class VI are very nourishing, filling, & varied to many tastes. I have been rafting with Class VI since the early '90's & would recommend them above anyone else.
Fast and customer centered service. Great campus amenities with excellent overlook areas to watch the New River gorge and sunsets. Sophisticated rustic venue.
We used Class VI for our Upper Gauley trip and we were not disappointed. For starters, the facility in general is amazing! We did not stay on the property, but everything looked very well kept, the restroom/shower/changing facilities were spotless and spacious, and the bar/restaurant had friendly staff and an ample enough selection of food and drink. All the guides seemed very knowledgeable and took their jobs seriously and did a great job at making sure we all made it down the river safely. I have had guides on other trips that perhaps were more personable, but given the focus it takes to guide on this river, I don't really expect them to be back there chit chatting the whole time. The lunch that was served on the trip was something like I had never seen before. There was an entire private area with a campfire, chairs, tables, and a crew cooking a hot meal with chicken, burgers, beans, mac and cheese, and more - an even dessert! Most rafting trips I've been on usually just have cold cut sandwiches and such! Overall, we were very impressed with our experience with Class VI. They are not the cheapest outfitter you can go with, but we felt everything that we were able to enjoy on this trip was well worth the extra money. Next fall when we fly back out for our Gauley weekend, we will be using Class VI the entire time!
I have gone down the river with Ray Ray 3 times now and I wouldn't have had it any other way. HE recongizes me every time. (He may not remember my name, but always my face.) As soon as I tell him my name he remembers every trip we have ever taken together. He is always entertaining, but most importantly he is always looking out for the safety of his rafters. You can definetly tell he knows what he is doing. The one thing that I have noticed about these trips is that people do not tip their raft guides! What?! If you tip your raft guide they are so appreciative. I wouldn't raft with anyone other than Ray Ray in West Virginia. I suggest you find a guide you like and stick with them. It makes the trip down the river that much better!
The rafting on the Gauley was AWESOE. Great guides (ask for Dennis or Andrew). They are skilledin getting you through the rapids and down the river safely
This company has learned how to do things as well as Disney. Great trip down river is a small part of it. EVERYBODY was polite, friendly, and helpful. Food was great, place clean, and not lacking in any way. The cabins were perfect for us and the bathrooms were immaculate no matter what time of day or night you used them. They have plenty of stuff to do at night and I would recommend this for a great family vacation.
