Brandon was a very fun boat captain guide! Not only did he really know A LOT of information about the wildlife of the manchac swamp, he even gave us some real hands on learning too!
Interesting visit superbly commented by dedicated personel. You leave there with a sense of having learned what a Cajun swamp is. Merci Brian.
Booked a tour on Groupon for a group of 4. It was a great price for the experience! We made this a a stop on our way out of New Orleans, since it's right off of I-10 about 30 minutes out. Brandon was our tour guide, and he was great! Really informative and practiced. You could tell talking about the swamp and the animals there was something that he was not only really comfortable with, but also passionate about. We spotted many gators, birds, and raccoons. Also, they brought on board turtles and a baby gator that everyone got to pass around and touch. When our actual tour ended, he walked a couple of folks back to see the giant snapping turtle they have on site. Really cool! All in all, it was a nice trip. Beer for sale in the office too ;) Thanks Brandon!
We took the tour on February 7th and it was a beautiful day for it. Brandon was our tour guide and I must say it was a lot fun. The highlight of the tour for me was getting to hold the baby alligator, cutest thing ever and surprisingly soft. Brandon was very informative and entertaining. He also brought other creatures for us to hold and touch - 5 turtles, a couple of snakes & crawfish. We also saw a couple of alligators, real ones, not stuffed (i think the previous reviewer had one too many hurricanes), few birds and the raccoon family, who also love marshmallows! I totally recommend this tour. We also did the plantation tour after the swamp tour, we chose the Oak Alley Plantation and it was beautiful and majestic.
We took the swamp tour at the beginning of February. They warned us that it might be too cold for gators to be out. But our guide was still hopeful. We saw raccoons, a few birds and even a couple of very small gators. I really wish I remembered the guide's name because he's really what made the tour. He saw the eye of a gator peeking out of a bunch of green muck from across the river. I didn't even see it until he got the boat right up next to it and we could see the outline of the body just under the surface of the water. But we did also see a small gator out on a branch above the water! The guide was very knowledgeable about anything and everything concerning the bayou. The company owns that part of the swamp and spend a lot of time keeping it clean and taking care of it, which I think is very awesome. It wasn't super exciting since it was too cold for the big gators, which is understandable, but it was still a beautiful bit of swamp to see.
Note that this tour is more for people who don't really get out into 'real' nature much. As an avid nature-lover, I found myself remaining seated while some other tour members rushed from side to side to see gators and raccoons eat marshmallows. But nevertheless, I can't really give Cajun Pride Tours a bad rating because it was ultimately a fun little excursion outside of the city. We got to hear some lore, see a bunch of alligators, experience an interesting change in scenery, and hold a baby alligator that had been chilling (literally) in the on-board cooler. So that adds up to an ultimate win.
We had gone on a different swamp tour in Slidell earlier in the week and saw a few alligators but the swamp was very flooded so not much to see. We had drove by this place on our way to lunch on the last day before leaving and had about 2 hrs to kill. We dropped in to see if there was any availability and in 15 minutes were on a swamp boat. Nolan wad a great guide, he is from the swamps and has been around them his whole life. He was very informative with history of the area as well as the wildlife we were experiencing. We saw alot of alligators, birds, turtles and a couple of raccoons. Great tour, nice people and very reasonable price, go do it!
Absolutely loved the swamp tour!! It was a little cold the for gators but we still saw several. Our guide brought plenty of creatures along and was very knowledgeable about the community and the critters. I highly recommend you check it out.
This tour was recommended by a friend from the New Orleans area and I am glad we did it. Our guide Brandon was very knowledgeable and fun. We will recommend this tour to friends.
