Not a cold and remote cathedral had a warm feel to it.worth the walk to the old town to view it.It is just a building of course as the church is where two or three are gathered together church is the people!
How can you describe the beauty of architecture when some buildings have it in them to take your breath away for a second. It may have been the light, or the kaleidoscope of lines that came together looking up inside. or a combination of both... Just go there.. and I hope you can see it the way I did.
A beautiful lofty Cathedral with great stone sculptured facade and side doors. In late September there is an illuminstion of ancient mo uments and the facade of the Cathedral had different treatments. One was musical and moving angels, another in vibrant colour and another like the pages of an illuminated manuscript. All enchanting!
This big old beautiful cathedral is well worth a visit, we lit candles and took a little while to contemplate a little prayer of thanks.
What a stunning building that is steeped in so much history. There is a very good display of models inside in the nave that explain the various stages in the construction of the Cathedral. Written explanations in French and English accompany each model. There is a good selection of stained glass and the many side chapels are also worth a view. The sacristy is also open to visitors. One striking feature of the exterior of the cathedral is the use of flying buttresses - one of the 1st times such things were used in church building. We visited at 1pm on a Sunday just after the noon service had finished. Just in front of the cathedral there is a fantastic local market on a Sunday morning with loads of food stalls, Rotisseries etc so if you are staying anywhere near by you can combine your food shopping with a trip round the cathedral! Admission is free and there is a collection box for donations. All in all not to be missed if you visit Le Mans.
The pictures do not do it justice. Larger than live and very lovely the cathedral is one of the best sights in Le Mans. Absolutely.
This cathedral is incredible, it is in the middle of the old town, the scenario is beautiful (you can even have a meal or a coffe in one of the tradicional restaurants in the old town).Great place to be and to admire. It has a special meaning for me once I left a candle there praying for my grandfather just somedays before he was died.
If in Le Mans, the Cathedral is definitely the sight to see. Spectacular exterior, and the same can be said of the interior. While we were visiting, music was being played on the fantastic organ, which in itself is a wondrous instrument. Should be viewed while also seeing the Old Town.
Beautiful. A spectacle that you must see. Wonderful gardens which are lovely to sit in to hear the bells ring.
The huge walls, the tiny streets huddled around the huge cathedral, you can imagine the place being sieged and sacked by warring french and english
