This museum was closed on Monday, but you can walk the grounds and look at the 30 something buildings on display on the property. It's amazing that the structures were able to be moved to this location for preservation. Myself and some friends spent about an hour walking around and reading the informative signs at each site. Would love to come back some day when the museum is open and take a proper tour.
Impressed about the size and the knowledge of our guide. We had a two hour tour and got with the explanation of our guide, a perfect idea how people lived in those days. When you are on your own you'll miss a lot. The houses, a school building, kitchen, wagons everything and much more, collected and put in harmony together. Don't go if you don't have time, don't go if you want adventure or excitement but don't miss this museum if you want to see and feel how families lived around Lexington SC. A perfect stop in Lexington, SC
Love the tour and seeing how people lived! Lexington has such a rich history! I brought my niece and son and they loved meandering around. We imagined different scenarios that we were living there too!
For the quilters in the crowd, they have the best selection of older quilts (late 1800s - early 1900s) and they know a great deal about them. They have several buildings on site. I would think kids would enjoy walking around on the grounds and seeing the old cabin, houses, and schoolhouse. The guide was the guy in-charge, and he really knew everything about the museum.
Lots of interesting artifacts, guide was very well-versed. I noticed that another traveler said that some of the information was misleading or incorrect or whatever. Our guide was very careful to let us know what was period, what wasn't. Not all the buildings were open at the time and I would guess that they rarely if ever are---something is always being curated, probably. But wow, $5 for that tour was well worth it! Actual tour was about 90 minutes but a larger group could take longer due to Q and A, plus you can wander the grounds afterward.
Has several historic buildings which are interesting. Younger children may enjoy walking around learning how people used to live prior to the Civil War.
Really enjoyed the experience as there was so much history and it was filled with such wonderful artifacts.
Narrated tour of all the houses on the site. Only a few were open to view, however noted on my calendar that Dec 8th will be Christmas open house and all buildings will be open for inspection. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting. Would definitely recommend this historical site and will return.
A collection of actual buildings & items and info from 1800s and arranged as a village. One will be amazed at what "worked" back then as opposed to what we think we "need" now!
This is a much smaller museum than the State Museum. It does have a few interesting exhibits and stories, but not much more.
