The history of the area was great. Was able to get some interesting information about Richmond that i never knew
The Visitor Center has interesting and informative exhibits, videos and a digital battlefield map. Helpful staff. Even when closed there is information panels outside. The battlefield park is a mile or so down Hwy 421. There are more info panels, a restored slave house and the Pleasant View house. They have a battlefield reenactment the last weekend in August.
This is a beautiful and well-preserved historic site with good, not great, interpretation. Most of what you see is on a well-marked walking trail. I visited before the visitor's center actually opened, so I can't comment on it. The park itself is definitely worth seeing. Expect a little hiking.
This visitors center has everything about the Civil War battle in Madison County, KY and more. Great laser images of the battle on a topography map, with sounds, photos and videos. Many displays, including real personal items from soldiers, officers and families. All kinds of information about the whole US Civil War with lots of free pamphlets to take and read later.
The place was nice but the employee was annoyingly talkative. She talked so much that we didn't even get to look around very much before we had to leave.
The visitor center is a wonderful place to visit. It has modern interactive technology that takes you back to the battle. Dr. Paul and Phillip are very knowledgeable about the battle and time period. Definitely worth a stop.
We are still new to Richmond and went to the visitor's center over the holidays with guests from PA. What a wonderful surprise! The center has photos and artifacts, as well as some terrific videos, maps, and interactive exhibits explaining the Battle of Richmond and Kentucky's role in the Civil War. The docent was also very well informed and delightful to talk with. Best of all, the entrance fee is just a donation. I highly recommend a visit.
Very interesting exhibits. I especially like the laser-light battle map with the video. There is a map to take you to where the battles were fought, but they are not in a park, so it's hard to get a feel for what it was like. The Mt. Zion church down the road though is very nice and there is a walking trail next to it.
We almost missed this place. The location is totally wrong in Google Maps (someone noted below, it is wrong in Streets and Trips also). It is definitely worth a 1 - 2 hour stop. There are several movies worth watching, but the Laser Map Display is really great.
Very interesting and a lot of history. They have a short video to watch and then you tour the house and battlefield.Phil the curator was very nice and helpful. He was very knowledgeable and could answer any question you asked.
