Take a taxi to Vidigal or to the end of LeBlon and walk from there. The journey up is half the experience. And you will make it if you are somewhat trained. Walk down and enjoy a lunch in Vidigal.
Up for a challenge! This is it. The perfect place to experience the favela, hike a mountain top and take stunning photos of Ipanema beach and the rest of Rio! Don't miss it!
This is one of the best views over Rio. Go by Taxi to the Favela Vidigal. There are some little Vans which go up the Favela (don't take the Mototaxi, these guys drive crazy) Tell the driver, that you want to go up the Morro Dois Irmaos. He will let you out near a sports field, which belongs to a school. Cross the field and there starts the Hike to the hill. It is easy to go, but anyway never go with Flip Flops, if you go up a mountain. It takes you between 30 to 45 minutes. There will be always some tourists around, so don't be afraid, this favela is quite safe. Take some water because there are no bars or anything up the hill.
Climbing is a bit of a challenge with the high temperature, and you can meet preety big spiders on the way, though the view compensates it all.
Go early morning so you will be on top of the mountain before it gets to hot. The hike can be challenging depending on your fitness and it's absolutely a must-do when you're in Rio.
Hit up this spot while in rio after many good recommendationsIt's one of those not well known gems!A nice little trek up the mountain and through the undergrowth and you get an amazing view over rio.. Seeing christ, meatloaf and the whole of rio without thousands of tourists getting in your way! This is a must
Tere is a belvedire on the top of the mountain, however most people do not bother going up the mountain. Nice view to it from the Ipanema and Leblon beach.
The Two Brothers hill is one of the most iconic visitors attractions in Rio. Lovely vistas, stunning backdrops for beautiful photographs & breathtaking views of Rio. A visit here will leave you with an awesome exhilarating feeling.
If you have a group, you can use one of the white Volkswagen van taxis to go up or down Vidigal rather than splitting up into mototaxis. There's two different entrances to the trail: the "secret" one starts you along a wall, the "normal" one starts near the football field. The normal one is far easier.Wear sturdy shoes--expect to slip a few times (more of an issue going downhill) as there are some very steep sections with nothing to grab on. We did the hike in the middle of the summer around 1 pm. It was extremely hot (36 C) and humid, and the beating sun made the trail far worse than it would be.There is a nice bar for coxinhas, beer, water and salty snacks right at the entrance to Vidigal across from the moto-taxi line which makes a good ending to the trip. An even better ending is to then go to Ipanema and jump in the ocean, cool off, and look towards Dois Irmaos to see where you had just been.
If you are a tourist only, don't go alone! The trail is hidden and you start in Vidigal a favela just behind Leblon. You take a moto taxi or van up to the soccer pitch and try to find your way. If you have no clue where the track is, you won't find it and there is a chance of getting lost. I'd say its too dangerous alone, guide is advisable!
