Love the selections; but the prices are really high where most people can't afford their items. It's still interesting to look at their items.
Great Directions from their website, and the shop itself is AWESOME! I HIGHLY reccomend it, and also that you allow PLENTY of time to visit! I was there 3 hours, and really want to go back because I KNOW I didn't see all of it! And EVERYONE there was Extremely Friendly!!!!!! Perfect Visit!!!!!
Very fun for treasure hunting. Cool stuff! Even met the owners- Mike and Robert. Friendly, accommodating people.
Nice, but it was customer appreciation day and very busy. Will go back on a week day when less crowed
Totally enjoyable. So many things to look at and dream of what you would do with them. Allow yourself several hours. We didn't spend near as much time as I would have liked outside but was there over 2 hours.
We were in Roanoke and I'd wanted to go here for a long time. We're not building anything, nor renovating, so our purpose was to visit on a lark just to check it out and ooh and aaah over the various options. It did not disappoint. So many architectural and interior features so well organized for you to choose from. And in addition to the renovations and garden supplies there's a whole huge section of antique and vintage dealer booths with all kinds of finds under one roof and all very neatly displayed in a good light and with easy access aisles. Also has my Roanoke fave — Appalachia Press — with John Reburn's truly phenomenal art work in cards, postcards, prints, doodads and etc. Don't leave Black Dog without also picking up some of these mini artistic treasures made on an antique letterpress. (He also does demos there, I think , so get lucky and go when that's happening!)SUPER FUN — going her would make an awesome afternoon date followed (or proceeded) by lunch or dinner at nearby Local Roots across the bridge in Grandin. (See my review and make reservations).
My husband had a work function in Roanoke. I was so excited to have an excuse to travel to southwestern VA to visit Black Dog Salvage. I have seen the show on TV and really enjoy salvage shops. This store did not disappoint at all. The store is huge and so well organized. The staff were friendly and Sally. the black dogm really was wandering around. The store hosts many local vendors who sell new, antique and everything in between. There is also a large portion dedicated to salvage. The care and organization or the salvage is amazing. Everything is labeled and there is great signage. If you are at all interested in old things, repurpoosed items or salvage of any kind this store is well worth your time.
Thank you very much for letting us know your thoughts and we are sorry that you were disappointed with your visit. We do like to let people know that there are two parts to our 40,000 sq ft warehouse here at Black Dog. The Marketplace and the Salvage side which besides half the warehouse includes the front porch, the front yard as well as the side and back yards. We now have a second location for our salvage located just over the bridge; our current location can no longer contain all our collection holds. If there is something someone is looking for specifically, we are happy to take them over to BDS2. The Marketplace does consist of booth spaces that we rent to local artists, artisans and collectors. While some think of us an "overnight success" due to the popularity of Salvage Dawgs, we have been in business for 15 years. During our early years those spaces kept the lights on here and we are fond of them.
Had heard about this place from a friend so went by to check it out. Seeing the architectural salvage pieces was so interesting, but the big payoff for me and my two friends was that a big part of the building is also an antique/consignment type place. We spent a couple of hours prowling around in there while it rained outside - big fun!
Love antiquing, and this was the perfect surprise trip my husband took me on for Valentine's Day. I've wanted to visit for a couple of years now, and finally made it! So much to look through! So many treasures! I even got to meet Mike Whiteside and Sally, so that definitely made my day!!
